YOB: Clearing The Path To Ascend CD Preorder Bundles Now Available; Release Day Looms

Two years after leveling the expectations of critics and listeners alike with Atma, Portland doom bringers, YOB, prepare to unleash Clearing The Path To Ascend, an aptly titled album for what will undoubtedly be the crowning achievement for a band whose journey now nears two decades of creating music as commanding as it is cathartic. As is the YOB way, the tracks here don’t simply offer a vacuous glimpse into the already riff-soaked doom genre. These songs demand the tandem attention of mind, body, and soul – etching a mark across a sound that finds YOB as formidable and unequaled as they’ve ever been. True ascension requires a destruction of those barriers that prevent any movement forward. Unsurprisingly, YOB pummels any and all of these obstacles with absolute authority, clearing the way for a genuinely visceral listening experience and climbing upward into a realm that sets the band in a heavy metal place that has been and will always remain wholly their own.

Recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene, notorious for its reserve of vintage equipment, alongside longtime collaborator/iconic sound-sage Billy Barnett, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering, YOB will release Clearing The Path To Ascend on CD and digitally via Neurot Recordings and on vinyl via Relapse Records on September 2nd, 2014.

IDES OF GEMINI: Otherworldly Conjurors Unleash Old World New Wave Trailer

As Old World New Wave, the long-awaited new full-length from Los Angeles’ otherworldly doom weavers, IDES OF GEMINI, draws near, today the band offers up a haunting new trailer to whet the appetites of fans hungry for their forthcoming platter of ethereal nightmares.

Directed and produced by singer/bassist Sera Timms and shot by Timms with drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson, the stunning, near-five-minute clip is at once despondent and beautiful, capturing both sonically and visually the true essence of the album with chest-caving urgency.

Get lost in the lurid sounds of Old World New Wave at THIS LOCATION.

IDES OF GEMINI features Timms (also of Los Angeles dark-psych alchemists Black Mare), Johnston-Gibson and guitarist Jason Bennett. Listed among Alternative Press’ Most Anticipated Albums Of The Rest Of 2014 as well as The Obelisk’s Records Not To Miss Before The New Year Hits, the follow-up to the band’s 2012 Constantinople debut, Old World New Wave was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer) and boasts the striking hand-drawn cover art of Johnston-Gibson.

Old World New Wave will be released on CD and digitally via Neurot Recordings and on vinyl via SIGE Records on September 16th, 2014.

“…darkly beautiful…” – Pitchfork

“Processional doom, [with] ethereal female harmonies and high-strung riffs [that] incite head-bowing, not – banging.” – Spin

“…a proverbial treasure chest in terms of atmosphere, ideas and contrasting musical textures…original and breathtaking.” – About.Com

NEUROSIS To Conquer Housecore Horror Film Fest; First Ever Australian Tour Nears

As the lineage of NEUROSIS nears its thirty-year mark, the band continues to perform across the planet sporadically but steadily — not having toured this heavily since the earlier years of their career — in seemingly unending support of their 2012-released tenth studio LP, Honor Found In Decay.

This week, NEUROSIS has confirmed their participation in this year’s colossal Housecore Horror Film Fest. The second installment of the gathering, set to run from October 23rd through 26th in Austin, Texas, will see NEUROSIS joining the lineup of bands which also includes Decapitated, Lustmord, Danzig, Samhain, Eyehategod, Vader and a rash of others. The Housecore Horror Fest performance falls directly in line with NEUROSIS’ set at the four-day Southwest Terror Fest III: The Western Front, where they’ll headline the main stage on Saturday, October 18th, joined by The Body, Author & Punisher and Sorxe, followed by a concert in Denver the following evening, Sunday, October 19th, with Subrosa, In The Company Of Serpents supporting.

Preceding their upcoming US live actions, and following their most recent European run which included sets at Graspop and Tuska Open Air festivals, on the first week of August, NEUROSIS prepares to venture into Australia for the first time ever in just over two weeks on a five-city trek through Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney between July 4th and 9th, with two shows scheduled in Melbourne.

STONEBURNER: Portland Ministers Of Doom To Kick Off West Coast Tour

Portland doom bringers, STONEBURNER, will kick off a short run of West Coast live rituals beginning today on their home turf at Mississippi Studios. From there the band will trample through five more cities in California and Oregon alongside progressive metalists, Burials. Additionally, team STONEBURNER will make an appearance at Festicide next month. The three-day event takes places in venues throughout the Portland area in an effort to celebrate P-Town’s deep-rooted DIY culture with an emphasis on punk, metal, and extreme music. Festicide shows are five bucks or totally free!

STONEBURNER:
7/15/2014 Mississippi Studios – Portland, OR w/ Burials [info]
7/17/2014 Johnny B’s – Medford, OR w/ Burials [info]
7/18/2014 Haus of Rice – Concord, CA w/ Burials [info]
7/19/2014 First Church Of The Buzzard – Oakland, CA w/ Burials [info]
7/20/2014 Starlite Lounge – Sacramento, CA w/ Burials [info]
7/21/2014 Goodfella’s – Springfield, OR w/ Burials [info]
8/15/2014 The Know as part of Festicide – Portland, OR [info]

STONEBURNER will be touring in support of the diseased fruit of their Life Drawing full-length, released earlier this year via Neurot Recordings. Featuring a host of talented guest vocalists including Krysta Martinez (Transient, Landmine Marathon), Benjamin Caragol (Burials, Hang the Old Year) and Joshua Greene (Bastard Feast, Ephemeros), Life Drawing basks in the sounds of its own emotional collapse. A sonic tidal wave of sickness, paranoia and soul-consuming dread, its nine distortion-laden hymns are at once loud, ugly and physically and psychologically crippling. The Portland Mercury crowned the record, “…a bottom-heavy, cracked, ground-crawling rager dipped in mire and slime,” Exclaim called it, “an exquisitely painful response to the struggle against desire and the impulse to satisfy one’s most base needs,” while Target Audience Magazine agreed: “This album is bold and complex, fearless and freaking heavy. This is thinking man’s metal.”

Get dismal with the sounds of Life Drawing still streaming at Decibel Magazine, at THIS LOCATION.

STONEBURNER’s musical ancestry winds through Buried At Sea, Buried Blood, Heathen Shrine and others. Named after a subterranean weapon from the novelDune, the band delivers a wholly organic orchestration of captivating, crustified doom metal, their torrid hymns bathed in internal agony, anguish and despair. To define STONEBURNER, one need only look to the list of bands with whom they’ve shared the stage: Yob, Sleep, Eyehategod, Neurosis, Buzzov-en, Weedeater, Saint Vitus, Watain, Tragedy, Noothgrush, Graves At Sea, Lord Dying, Drop Dead, Whitehorse, Windhand, Bastard Noise…

CORRECTIONS HOUSE Minister Of Propaganda, Seward Fairbury, MISSING! Band Marches On To Roskilde Festival

CORRECTIONS HOUSE minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury, has turned up missing from his place of residence this week in California after an apparently violent confrontation within his home. CORRECTIONS HOUSE member, Scott Kelly said, “The last time I had any contact with Seward was ten weeks ago; it’s not uncommon to not see him for weeks at a time, but he always keeps us in the loop with a postcard or a phone call about once a month. We went by his trailer and it was completely trashed; it looked like there had been a serious disturbance. If you’ve ever met Seward, you know he’s mean as fuck and he isn’t gonna go anywhere he doesn’t want too. We’re reaching out through our connections and through Seward’s extensive family and trying to figure out what is going on.” The Lake Co. Sheriff’s office has issued a simple but ominous statement saying that the matter is under investigation but that they expect no cooperation from the Fairbury family, from his friends, or his neighbors in the the matter whatsoever.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE will soldier on without Fairbury, and continue to do work. They are releasing a live record due out this Fall entitled Writing History In Advance through War Crime Recordings, will continue to work on their next full length due out in early 2015 and will appear at the Roskilde Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark this Friday, July 4th. Additionally, the band will support Sleep for two nights in Chicago on August 28th and 29th at Thalia Hall.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE — the bastard sound manipulations of Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod), Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza), Sanford Parker (Minsk) and their minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury — is a meeting of minds and ideologies that sees all four members incorporating their obvious individual talents and voices but simultaneously carving paths away from the sounds for which they are usually known. On most recent full-length, Last City Zero released last year via Neurot Recordings, they traverse tectonic plate-shifting doom and the downcast gloom of Kelly’s usual ouevre into mutated industrial hissing and clanging EBM beats from Parker, squalls and drones of oblique saxophone from Lamont and Williams’ familiar phlegm-drenched fire-spitting ire and all points in-between.

“Featuring dark, depressing atmospheres and exceptionally negative, apocalyptic vibes, Last City Zero is brooding, raw and corrosive, as well as breathtakingly beautiful…” – Exclaim

YOB: Oregon Doomsmiths Post Second Clearing The Path To Ascend Video Teaser; US Tour Dates Announced

Oregon doomsmiths, YOB, will released their long-awaited full-length, the aptly titled Clearing The Path To Ascend, via Neurot Recordings this Fall. Recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene, notorious for its reserve of vintage equipment, alongside longtime collaborator/iconic sound-sage Billy Barnett, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering, Clearing The Path To Ascend is undoubtedly the crowning achievement for a band whose journey now nears two decades of creating music as commanding as it is cathartic.
