BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH -- Doyle, bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Anunnaki) -- unleashed their self-titled debut album last February via Neurot Recordings. Captured at Robert Lang Studios and Doyle’s own Witch Ape Studio and mixed by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Zoroaster, Eyehategod, Taurus, Ommadon etc), Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth is the sound of earthly decomposition and planetary ruin; a slow, suffocating, spellbinding dance towards a looming apocalypse. Having already reaped accolades from fans and media globally, NPR Music recently listed the band’s debut among its 25 Favorite Albums Of 2015 (So Far) noting, “Seattle’s Tad Doyle has been at this heavy game coming on three decades now. With bands like Tad and Hog Molly, he could take a bummer riff and make it boil and hum in ways others just couldn’t. Years in the making, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH‘s debut is a thoroughly satisfying doom metal LP that is fully awake and teeming with power.”

Since the release of their 1987 debut LP, Pain Of Mind, NEUROSIS has increasingly developed into a more potent and prolific act with each new recording and tour. Through releases on Alchemy, Lookout!, Alternative Tentacles, Relapse, Hydra Head and more -- before forming their own Neurot Recordings which houses all of their recordings since the beginning of the millennium -- the band has become a genre-defining institution of heavy music. The Oakland, California natives have broken ground at every turn, pioneering a sound that influenced heavyweights including Isis, Mastodon and High On Fire and inspiring endless legions of fans with their expansive, mind-altering works, as well as forming their own solo outfits and touring acts outside of NEUROSIS.

In 2012, NEUROSIS released Honor Found In Decay, recorded by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio and mastered by John Golden of Golden Mastering, the album showcasing the band taking their esoteric but leveling and hymns to even further diversified areas of exploration. Following the album’s hometown release show, they disbanded with the backdrop visuals that had accompanied their live set nearly since inception, empowering their anthems in a drastically more human approach. Since the album’s release, NEUROSIS has been heavily proactive tour-wise, embarking on regional bouts of touring and taking part in high-profile one-off and festival events throughout North America and Europe. And the cycle shall continue through the remainder of 2015 and onward towards their eleventh studio album.

KOWLOON WALLED CITY To Release Grievances Via Neurot Recordings October 9th; Artwork + Track Listing Revealed

KOWLOON WALLED CITY will release their long-awaited new full-length this fall. Grievances, their third album and first for Neurot Recordings, finds the San Francisco band at its artistic peak, having moved even further away from its sludgy, post-hardcore origins and toward a sparser, sadder, yet still de-tuned heaviness.

This shift began with 2012’s critically successful Container Ships, which Lambgoat described as “spacious” and “mildly hypnotic,” with a “Shellac-like use of dead time and instrumentation,” and The Obelisk called “cerebral in approach.” On Grievances, the band takes these elements to even greater extremes. The strings rattle. The guitars crackle and blister. The notes ring out, at turns bleak and beautiful -- sometimes both at once.

“We dug into this expansive, less distorted vibe. The songs are mostly slow and bummed out but we still want them to push, to have energy,” said vocalist/guitarist Scott Evans.

Evans, together with guitarist Jon Howell, bassist Ian Miller, and drummer Jeff Fagundes spent over two years working on the seven songs for Grievances. The intense editing process weeded out about two albums’ worth of songs. Howell’s unusual chord changes and discordant aesthetic channel Unwound and Slint. Miller’s gritty bass adds a surprising layer of depth and melody, while Fagundes’ drums resonate in what sounds like an impossibly large room. Evans’ shouted vocals are raw with frustration and disappointment, but without the typical veneer of macho aggression.

“We’re not interested in doing something that’s good enough -- we want to do something that we believe is good,” said Miller. “With Scott’s concept and sonics and Jon’s playing and our rhythm section, we feel like should be able to do something interesting. But it’s hard work.”

The concept of work forms the thematic foundation of the entire record, from the cover art to the title and the lyrics. Whereas previous KOWLOON WALLED CITY releases were largely inspired by the band’s hometown of San Francisco, Grievances focuses its attention on our complex relationships with work and the power our employment -- and employers -- have over us.

As with KOWLOON WALLED CITY’s previous releases, Evans recorded and mixed, starting in Sharkbite Studios and finishing in his own Antisleep Audio, both in Oakland. “We’re not a fancy band. There are no effects to speak of, no reverb, no delays,” said Evans. “We each play one guitar, one pedal, one amp. So there’s not much to hide behind. I try to respect that in our recording process and our recordings.”

Grievances Track Listing:
1. Your Best Years
2. Grievances
3. Backlit
4. The Grift
5. White Walls
6. True Believer
7. Daughters And Sons

KOWLOON WALLED CITY formed in 2007 and has released an EP, Turk Street (Wordclock, 2008), and two full-length albums, Gambling On The Richter Scale (Perpetual Motion Machine, 2009) and Container Ships (Brutal Panda, 2012), as well as two splits. Among the bands it has shared stages with are Neurosis, Tragedy, Sleep, Thou, Coliseum, Zozobra, Fight Amp, Roomrunner, The Body, and Helms Alee.

Grievances will be released worldwide on October 9th, 2015 on Neurot Recordings, with vinyl on Gilead Media. Preorders to be announced in the coming weeks.

IDES OF GEMINI released their critically-hailed, Chris Rakestraw (Danzig)-produced Old World New Wave full-length last September via Neurot Recordings and as well as a special, limited Carthage/Strange Fruit seven-inch via Magic Bullet Records last month in honor of Record Store Day.

If you missed it, the band recently unveiled the haunting visual accompaniment to their reinterpretation of “Strange Fruit.” Written as a poem by Abel Meeropol in 1937, and set to music famously by Billie Holiday in 1939, the song stems from Meeropol’s original protest piece against the racial lynchings that marred the early 20th century in America and has been covered many times over including versions by Nina Simone, Annie Lennox, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Diana Ross, and countless others. The solemn video was directed by Timms, and is currently playing at Revolver Magazine RIGHT HERE.

IDES OF GEMINI's Old World New Wave is available on CD and digitally via Neurot Recordings and on vinyl via SIGE Records. For CD orders, point your browser HERE and for T-shirt bundles, point your browser to THIS LOCATION. The seven-inch is currently available on limited black and clear wax at THIS LOCATION.  Desirers of the digitals visit Magic Bullet’s BandCamp page HERE or iTunes HERE.

“A stark blend of black metal-derived guitar riffs, rigid, martial beats, and the haunting, gothic vocal harmonies of bassist Sera Timms and drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson, this album washes over the listener, feeling simultaneously comforting and unsettling.” – Decibel

“…the pure, sonic power of these songs… will knock you off your feet.” – Soundblab

“…an enjoyable dream-doom filled sonic journey from start to finish.” – Bearded Gentlemen Music

“…there’s enough droney doom on [Old World New Wave] to make you feel like you’re stuck in David Lynch’s dreams.” – Noisey

IDES OF GEMINI has a knack… for creating a world of sound and inviting the listener in. Their music has the feel of a classic horror film: all psychology, no fake blood or cheap startles. If there’s a goth revival afoot in metal culture — and, given last year’s releases by In Solitude, Beastmilk and others, there’s certainly an argument to be made for that — then IDES OF GEMINI is among its most evocative front-runners.” – Invisible Oranges

Dark Buddha Rising Announce September Album Release Date and Reveal Artwork and Track Listing

Psychedelic doom purveyors, Dark Buddha Rising, will be releasing their fifth studio album, Inversum, on September 25th, their first release on Neurot Recordings.

The album follows their 2014 European tour with Mr. Peter Hayden, with the Finnish black psychedelic doom 6-piece deservedly garnering further recognition as masters of the art of the hypnotic and dark sonics, which they have been honing for the past 8 years since their inception.

Credit: Sasu Riikonen

Inversum swallows the listener into an introspective realm of dark psychedelia, menacing mysticism and weighty, trudging riffs. Dark Buddha Rising have this to say about the album:

"Inversum is the opening of the Third Cycle of Dark Buddha Rising. It acts as an initiation for the new members V. Vatanen (guitar, vocals), J. Saarivuori (keyboards) and M. Neuman (vocals), also it is the first release through Neurot Recordings. Most of all, Inversum is the first album that is recorded, produced and mixed by ourselves in the depths of the Wastement, the asylum of eternal feedback...

...The process that led to the manifestation of the Inversum, was heavily guided by both intuition and determination, in order to take the musick even further down the path we have chosen. Inversum is a monument built upon the foundation of our work and sculpted with the initial principles of Dark Buddha Rising, to celebrate the Black Arts of Psychedelia."

Below is the album artwork coming from collaboration of V. A. and Karmazid and album tracklisting, which we are proud to reveal today...

INVERSUM  TRACK  LISTING

1. E S O
2. E X O

Since 2008's Ritual IX, "the group has mastered their craft album by album, show by show. Ominous riffing, colossal doom, swirling psychedelia, repetition, repetition, repetition. The recipe is carved in stone, yet it leads to different endings – or bottomless shafts. Tension, tension, tension, lunacy. I only have one advice to give: Hold tight. The winds are gathering." - words by Jukka Hätinen
