YOB Returns To The Stage This Weekend At Northwest Terror Fest Following Guitarist/Vocalist Mike Scheidt’s Diverticulitis Surgery, Additional Live Dates Draw Near

Cosmic doom trio YOB will make their return to the stage this week at the Northwest Terror Fest in Seattle, Washington alongside Coven, Cephalic Carnage, Wolves In The Throne Room, and so many others. The performance serves as guitarist/vocalist Mike Scheidt’s first show since undergoing emergency diverticulitis surgery earlier this year. Diverticulitis is an inflammation of the digestive tract and is often life-threatening.

Said Scheidt in a recent Facebook post to fans, “…Everything is different on my insides, and I'm learning to adjust to both healing pains and new normals. Time will tell which is which. All the same, slow and steady is my mantra. I have a feeling of gratitude that is consistent, and we’re writing so much new music with YOB that I don't know how we're going to distill it all… I wish nothing but love and health, laughs and inspiration for our shared, diverse, unique tribe. For those who have sent me messages, shared love, their time and help with my survival during these trials of mine, I remain ever thankful and count myself as beyond lucky. My ability to weather all of this and continue working is framed by these blessings. We are so looking forward to these shows...seeing friends, watching bands, and getting to share the stage. It's surreal to be able to do it again. Can't wait."

The band will also lay their purifying riff rituals upon Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, New York for three sold out nights -- June 23rd, 24th, and 25th. The shows were initially scheduled for February but postponed. The following evening, the band will head south for a performance in Austin, Texas at Come And Take It Live. In August, YOB will play San Diego, California’s Brick By Brick with SubRosa followed by a Psycho Las Vegas preparty directly after the fest’s warm up pool party (this will be a separately ticketed event). Future YOB shows to be announced in the coming weeks.

YOB released their Clearing The Path To Ascend full-length via Neurot Records in 2014. On Clearing The Path To Ascend, YOB is as formidable as they’ve ever been, demanding the tandem attention of mind, body, and soul. Drummer Travis Foster wields his signature rhythmic furor here with bombastic precision while bassist Aaron Rieseberg coils around the sonic tide with an unforgiving churn all the while in a deadly synchronicity with Scheidt’s uncanny vocal range and its pendulous movement between the triumphant howls of a medieval madman and the earth-splitting growls of a war-battered titan. Take this opportunity to revisit this remarkable album at THIS LOCATION. YOB is love.

“The seventh album from Oregon doom metal sky-gazers, YOB … makes perfect bedfellows of volume and beauty, pain and transcendence.” – Rolling Stone

“Mike Scheidt’s songwriting has never been stronger or more dynamic… a masterful return to form by an American doom powerhouse.” – Decibel

“There’s loud, and there’s transcendently loud, and this performance of ‘The Great Cessation’ is towering, the tone so thick it’s tactile.” — Terrorizer

"The magic of Yob's set tonight lies in the centrepiece of their band's latest album…all four tracks are strong and stunning, in particular Marrow, which allows Mike Scheidt's voice to roll out across the venue in waves of perfect sadness, bringing to life and colour the slowly moving song…Mike's singular voice is ushered in via crunching guitars and the song shifts forward towards the inescapable, earth-shattering end." - 9/10 METAL HAMMER

"Sometimes, bands do the praise levelled at them justice but sometimes they outstrip them by leagues. Tonight was the latter, and then some." - ROCK A ROLLA

"There's loud, and there's transcendently loud, and this performance of 'The Great Cessation' is towering, the tone so thick it's tactile."

YOB: North American Headlining Tour With Black Cobra To Commence This Week; Band Added To Sabertooth Fest 2016

YOB might be one of the best bands in North America.” – The New York Times

Long-running, psychedelic doom conjurers, YOB, are readying to kick off a near month-long North American headlining tour with support from San Francisco riff peddlers, Black Cobra. Set to kick off on October 22nd in Boise, Idaho and run through November 21st in Oakland, California, the trio will conquer the stages of over two dozen venues including a special performance at this year’s edition of Philip H. Anselmo’s Housecore Horror Fest in San Antonio, Texas. As an added bonus and in celebration of the record’s ten-year anniversary, fans attending the November 5th show at Bell House in Brooklyn, New York will pay witness to the band’s performance of 2005's mammoth The Unreal Never Lived album in its rumbling entirety.

Additionally, YOB will appear at Sabertooth Fest 2016 in February in Portland, Oregon which includes the likes of Super Furry Animals, Earth, King Black Acid, Red Fang, Witch Mountain, Eternal Tapestry, Built To Spill, Mikal Cronin with Emmett Kelly, Fresh & Onlys and Snakes!

Comments vocalist/guitarist Mike Scheidt, "[Drummer] Travis [Foster], [bassist] Aaron [Rieseberg] and I are really excited about this tour. Not only do we get to share the stage every night with our good friends and excellent tour mates Jason, Rafa and Black Cobra, but we get to travel the country again and rock with quite a few amazing bands and see our friends around the US. Black Cobra and YOB have been talking about touring together for the better part of a decade, and now it's happening! We can't wait."

YOB continues to tour in support of their universally-adored Clearing The Path To Ascend full-length, released early last Fall via Neurot Recordings. Recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene alongside longtime YOB comrade/iconic sound wizard, Billy Barnett, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege, Clearing The Path To Ascend topped Rolling Stone’s 2014 list of the best metal albums and was praised by countless media outlets from Pitchfork to The New York Times. Never before has doom metal been at the forefront of the public consciousness, and it’s easy to see why: though it’s come almost two decades into their existence, YOB have created not just the best album of their career – they’ve manifested what will come to be regarded as one of the defining records in the pantheon of doom metal.

YOB‘s live show is everything you’d want from a power trio. From frenetic riffs and furious drumming to slow, crushing doom, a YOB gig is less a performance and more a communal brain-fuck. They hold their audience transfixed with brief moments of brooding, atmospheric, almost ambient respite, before pulverizing them with a massive, brutal crush of noise. The band will be touring in support of their universally-adored Clearing The Path To Ascend full-length, released early last Fall via Neurot Recordings. LIFE IS NOISE is pleased to announce the support acts for YOB’s Australian tour this August

YOB play their first ever show on the shores in Perth at The Rosemount on August 19, support comes from the somber reflections of drone duo Alzabo, featuring members of Cease and Mink Mussel Creek. But first: behold the crushing waves of blackened doom quartet Dirac Sea.

At Enigma Bar in Adelaide on August 20, support comes from the elephantine riffage of stoner doom behemoths Space Bong, who are finally ready to unleash their new album that’s been four years in the making. They’ll be joined by Crypt, boasting rock-the-fuck-out jams at breakneck speeds.

At YOB’s Melbourne show at Max Watt's (formerly The HiFi) on Friday August 21, submit to the otherworldly barbaric majesty of one of the nation’s heaviest collectives, Whitehorse. But to begin, genuflect and show your reverence for the funereal dirge of doom-death prophets Inverloch.

In Sydney on Saturday August 22 at Manning Bar, warm up to the searing sounds of Australia’s fastest stoner riff lords, Sumeru. Get down early for some invasive respiratory therapy from noise thrash enthusiasts Thorax.

Rounding out the tour on August 23 at Crowbar in Brisbane, support comes from Relapse Records signees Hope Drone, who’ll be riding the waves of newly released punishing long-player, Cloak of Ash. Opening hymns will be screamed by Queensland’s resident hypno-occultists Frown.

In 2014, YOB released the best doom metal album of the year. Near universally praised, Clearing the Path to Ascend topped Rolling Stone’s list of the best metal albums and was critically lauded by everyone from Pitchfork to The New York Times. Never has doom metal been at the forefront of the public consciousness like this, and it’s easy to see why: though it’s come almost two decades into their existence, YOB have made not just the best album of their career – they’ve made what will come to be regarded as one of the defining records in the pantheon of doom metal.

Clearing the Path to Ascend is magnificently loud and rapturously strident, but, at its heart, it quietly provides a sense of support for our innermost being; succor for our very souls. – Steel for Brains

Which is not to say any of this came easy. Few bands hit their creative stride after seven records and almost twenty years, and Yob’s recording career has led them to stints with Metal Blade and Profound Lore before settling at their current home with spiritual siblings Neurosis at their label Neurot Recordings. The Neurosis comparison is obvious, but for every moment of earth-shaking post-metal, there are flourishes of old-school, soul-crushing sorrow that hark back to Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus; for every Earth-like meditation, there’s a measured catharsis of energy that recalls the explosive sludge of Melvins.

What makes Clearing the Path to Ascend such a landmark record is its stellar two-track second half. While the album’s opening act bathes in layers of funereal dirge and existential dread, its penultimate and closing tracks mark one of the genre’s finest half-hours as the trio push through to the other side of hell. With every repetition, Mike Scheidt’s riffs grow all the more hypnotic, his pious incantations ever-more compelling. YOB have succeeded where many of their contemporaries fail, imbuing the oft-tired tropes of a monolithic genre with untold emotion and transcendent zeal. This is doom metal reborn.

YOB Confirms August Australian Tour 2015; Band To Descend Upon Maryland Deathfest This Week

The latest bout of touring from Northwestern psychedelic doom trio, YOB, has been announced, as the outfit has confirmed their first trek to Australia this Summer.

YOB’s live show is everything you’d want from a power trio. And now, Life Is Noise is proud to present the Australian debut of one of the finest doom metal bands in the world on their first trek to the Australian continent this August.

"We have been wanting to come play in Australia for a long time,” issues iconic YOB guitarist/vocalist Mike Scheidt. “A number of my favorite bands are from there! Also, we've made some good friends there over the years. So now to finally be able to go play some shows and hang in real time is very exciting. Massive thanks to Dave Cutbush, Jack Midalia and everyone at Life Is Noise for making it possible! We're very much looking forward to this."

“Mike Scheidt’s songwriting has never been stronger or more dynamic… a masterful return to form by an American doom powerhouse” – Decibel
“Clearing The Path To Ascend is YOB at their most frenzied (‘Nothing To Win’) as well as their gentlest (‘Marrow’), but taken as whole, its four songs feel like the seasons or the elements: powerful, eternal, wondrous, and bigger than all of us.” – Stereogum
“An absolute monument of musicianship, songcraft, and raw emotion…” – Free Williamsburg

“For all its heaviness, the album is disarmingly meditative, relying less on forcing the mood for the listener and entrusting that the human commonalities of love, loss, fear, and hope threaded throughout the music will render an altogether familiar place of comfort and strength within the listener.” – Steel For Brains

YOB will be touring in support of their critically-fawned upon Clearing The Path To Ascend full-length, released early last Fall via Neurot Recordings. Recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene alongside longtime YOB comrade/iconic sound wizard, Billy Barnett and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege, Clearing The Path To Ascend has reaped the praise of major media outlets globally, including Rolling Stone who placed the record at the coveted #1 spot on their 20 Best Metal Albums Of 2014 noting, “The seventh album from Oregon doom metal sky-gazers, YOB … makes perfect bedfellows of volume and beauty, pain and transcendence.” The esteemed publication further commends the record noting, “Opener ‘In Our Blood’ extends a simple riff into complex arches, tracing [vocalist Mike] Scheidt’s voice as it moves from an exquisite falsetto to a death-metal bellow in the course of sixteen-minutes. And during the colossal closer ‘Marrow’ — possibly the best metal song of the year, one that uses low notes to play uplifting melodies — Scheidt sings ‘Time will fall inside the dream.’ His voice suddenly reaches out like a clarion’s call, clear and telling and beautiful. It’s a pronouncement from the living, a semaphore pointing into the future.” Elsewhere the sentiment echoes. Free Williamsburg crowns Clearing The Path To Ascend, “An absolute monument of musicianship, songcraft, and raw emotion,” noting, “this hour-plus slab of gut-wrenching, god-toppling doom, crafted by frontman Mike Scheidt in the wake of divorce and the decision to stop taking anti-depressants, operates on a grander scale, both sonically and philosophically, than any other album this year.” Decibel Magazine concurs, “Mike Scheidt’s songwriting has never been stronger or more dynamic… a masterful return to form by an American doom powerhouse,” while Stereogum adds, “Clearing The Path To Ascend is YOB at their most frenzied (‘Nothing To Win’) as well as their gentlest (‘Marrow’), but taken as whole, its four songs feel like the seasons or the elements: powerful, eternal, wondrous, and bigger than all of us.

The two bands will headline the Rams Head Live stage, taking over the venue with Bevar Sea, Conan, Iron Man, Jex Thoth, Mantar and Primitive Man. With only a brief 2008 West Coast venture in the US under their belt, the full-on upcoming tour will see the band spending several weeks stateside, bringing their magical, mysterious and pulverizing doom metal to the masses in support of their acclaimed ORO double-album set, released in 2013, as well as their next full-length release, which the band is currently preparing to record in October for release again through Neurot in early 2015. UFOMAMMUT will also be releasing a massive DVD entitled XV through their own Supernatural Cat Records this October, with more than three hours of material documenting their decade-and-a-half together. The band is also set to perform at Up In Smoke in Pratteln, Switzerland with Fu Manchu, Kadavar, Blues Pills, Brant Bjork, Dozer, Naam, Conan and tons more on October 3rd and 4th.

Oregon’s psychedelic doom metal trio, YOB, is currently embarked on a massive European tour with Pallbearer, supporting their recently-released seventh studio full-length, Clearing The Path To Ascend. The widely lauded album is currently thriving with great accolades pouring in from media outlets and fans worldwide, being recognized as another massive achievement for the now institutional act, and marks one of the most essential extreme albums of the year. Their first release as part of the Neurot family, the album was just released by the label on CD and all digital download, with Relapse Records releasing the vinyl version this week. Clearing The Path To Ascend is an aptly titled album for what will undoubtedly be the crowning achievement for a band whose journey now nears two decades of creating music as commanding as it is cathartic. As is the YOB way, the tracks here don’t simply offer a vacuous glimpse into the already riff-soaked doom genre. These songs demand the tandem attention of mind, body, and soul – etching a mark across a sound that finds YOB as formidable and unequaled as they've ever been. True ascension requires a destruction of those barriers that prevent any movement forward. Unsurprisingly, YOB pummels any and all of these obstacles with absolute authority, clearing the way for a genuinely visceral listening experience and climbing upward into a realm that sets the band in a heavy metal place that has been and will always remain wholly their own.

Recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene, notorious for its reserve of vintage equipment, alongside longtime collaborator/iconic sound-sage Billy Barnett, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering. Clearing The Path To Ascend is available now on CD and digitally via Neurot Recordings and shall be available on vinyl via Relapse Records on the 15th of September.
