If you missed it, the band recently unveiled the haunting visual accompaniment to their reinterpretation of “Strange Fruit.” Written as a poem by Abel Meeropol in 1937, and set to music famously by Billie Holiday in 1939, the song stems from Meeropol’s original protest piece against the racial lynchings that marred the early 20th century in America and has been covered many times over including versions by Nina Simone, Annie Lennox, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Diana Ross, and countless others. The solemn video was directed by Timms, and is currently playing at Revolver Magazine RIGHT HERE.

IDES OF GEMINI Announce Summer Tour With Clay Rendering, Performance At Crucialfest And More

IDES OF GEMINI are very pleased to announce their latest bout of West Coast live ceremonies. Set to commence on July 14th in Oakland, the journey will coil its way around ten cities through California, Oregon, Vancouver and Washington, coming to a close on July 24thin Glendale. The band will be joined by blackened dream pop duo, Clay Rendering. As a precursor to the expedition, the ethereal trio will play two shows supporting Oxbow next week. Two weeks later the IDES will head to Salt Lake City for a performance at Crucialfest alongside Rosetta, Norska, Disforia and more and followed by slot on the Demon Lung record release show in Las Vegas June 20th.

The latest round of IDES OF GEMINI rituals follow the band’s run supporting acclaimed indie rockers, Mountain Goats, which was cut short due to a medical injury sustained by drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson. "After the disappointment of having to drop off the Mountain Goats tour last month,” issues guitarist J. Bennett, “we're looking forward to getting out on the road again. Unfortunately, Kelly's injury is still healing so she won't be able to join us for the June shows with Oxbow and Demon Lung or our appearance at Cruficalfest in Salt Lake. The good news is that our friend Sash Popovic, formerly of [singer/bassist] Sera's [Timms] old band, Black Math Horseman, will be filling in for those. He's a killer drummer and a great guy, so we're very thankful that he's agreed to help us out. If all goes according to plan, Kelly should be back in action for the July run with Clay Rendering."

IDES OF GEMINI: Cryptic “Seer Of Circassia” Video Now Playing At Noisey; Old World New Wave Out Now Via Neurot Recordings

Old World New Wave is the latest long player from West Coast shadowy sound conjurors, IDES OF GEMINI. Released in September via Neurot Recordings, the follow-up to the band’s critically-laudedConstantinople debut was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer) and offers up nine tracks of dark, mesmerizing soundscrapes.

In celebration of its release, today Vice’s music gateway, Noisey,  reveals the occult conjurings of their erotic Daciana Birladeanu-directed “Seer Of Circassia” video. Elaborates singer/bassist Sera Timms, “The concept of the album traces the symbolic-psychological breakdown of a character over ten days [‘Seer Of Circassia’ takes place on day four]. We're working within the structures of psycho-spiritual alchemical transformation, utilizing Carl Jung's school of analytical psychology. Essentially we have a story of the psychological conflict of opposing forces -- yin-yang, male/female/dark light, etc. -- each driven by desire. The masculine archetype in this story desires control and structure, while the feminine archetype desires recognition and equality as it has been repressed in the ‘Old World.’ Our protagonist is the Emperor, based creatively on the last Emperor of Constantinople, who represents the ego, masculine, solar consciousness along with control, structure, domination, force and power.

View the gorgeously shot “Seer Of Circassia” video along with an
in-depth interview with guitarist J. Bennett at THIS LOCATION.

The band will bring their sonic séance to the stage next month playing Intronaut’s tenth anniversary show with additional IDES ceremonies to be announced in the coming weeks.

IDES OF GEMINI Unleashes Old World New Wave; New Hymn Now Playing At Pitchfork

Following the release of their long anticipated Old World New Wave full-length earlier this week via Neurot Recordings, West Coast sound weavers, IDES OF GEMINI, are pleased to unleash "May 22, 1453" today via Pitchfork.

________________________________________

Feel the swell of "May 22, 1453,” now playing at Pitchfork
at THIS LOCATION.
________________________________________

Elaborates singer/bassist Sera Timms of the hymn,
"We've had a history as a band of gifts and opportunities being given to us in alignment with the lunar phases, so it seemed fitting to give something back. This song and really the whole album is that something. The song was inspired by the prophetic May 22nd lunar eclipse preceding the fall of Constantinople. If you can imagine that empire as your mind and the black moon as your mother, then you will know the meaning of the Old World New Wave."

Adds Pitchfork:
“The band's always flirted with the occult in both aesthetic and tone, eschewing the heavy-handed witchicisms preferred by some in favor of cultivating a lighter, more holistic aura. The ritualistic feel on ‘May 22, 1453’ stems both from Timms’ stentorian delivery and the lyrics themselves, which circle around the lunar eclipse that some say predicted the fall of Constantinople. It’s a neat tie-in to the band’s debut, and only one of the album’s many arcane historical footnotes. The rumbling 'Fememorde' alludes to medieval vigilantes and political murder, while Timms’ dreamy croon on 'Seer of Circassia' spills dreams of the ancient crossroads between Europe and the Far East. Ides of Gemini aren’t the kind of band that would typically sing about goats or gore, but the complex, often mystical lyrics are handled with care, underscoring the band’s otherwordly ambitions."

And if you missed it, check out “Fememorde,” at Cvlt Nation at THIS LOCATION, “The Adversary,” still streaming at Revolver Magazine at THIS LOCATION as well as “The Chalice & The Blade,” at Noisey HERE.

IDES OF GEMINI will take to the stage this Fall on a pair of live performances, the first serving as the trio’s official record release gala in Los Angeles tonight, the second playing Intronaut’s tenth anniversary show. Additional IDES ceremonies will to be announced in the coming weeks.

IDES OF GEMINI: Old World New Wave

In May of 2012, IDES OF GEMINI unveiled their debut full-length,Constantinople. Its mere existence was a triumph for the three band members — Sera Timms (vocals/bass), Kelly Johnston-Gibson (drums/backing vocals), and Jason Bennett (guitar/backing vocals) — but other folks had some nice things to say about it as well.

Following the release of their debut, IDES OF GEMINI spent much time touring. They performed a pair of shows with Old Man Gloom in the autumn of 2012, before embarking upon a European/UK tour that kicked off at Germany’s South Of Mainstream Festival and saw the band play direct support to Saturday night headliners, The Obsessed, and later to a full house at Holland’s Incubate Festival. In January of 2013, IDES OF GEMINI had the honor of opening for their labelmates (and label bosses), Neurosis, at the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles. A month-long North American tour as sole support for the anonymous Swedes of Ghost B.C. followed in the Spring. This successful journey coincided with two new IDES OF GEMINI songs on Hexagram 45, a special Record Store Day 7-inch released via Magic Bullet Records that had to be repressed before it even came out due to overwhelming record shop demand.

Upon their return to Los Angeles, IDES OF GEMINI shared stages with Boris, Deafheaven, and True Widow before hibernating to finish writing and rehearsing new material. That new record is ready to see the light of day.

Listed among Alternative Press’ Most Anticipated Albums Of The Rest Of 2014 as well as The Obelisk’s Records Not To Miss Before The New Year Hits, the follow-up to the band’s 2012 Constantinople debut, Old World New Wave was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer) and boasts the striking hand-drawn cover art of Johnston-Gibson.

“The foundation for Old World New Wave was laid beforeConstantinople even came out,” Bennett reveals. “We had the title, most of the guitar tracks and basic arrangements in place at that point. We’ve been planning this record for a long time, so it’s incredibly rewarding — and a total relief — to finally have it out.”

IDES OF GEMINI will bring their ethereal nightmares to the stage this Fall with a pair of live performances, the first serving as the trio’s official record release gala in Los Angeles, the second playing Intronaut’s tenth anniversary show. Additional IDES rituals will to be announced in the coming weeks.

In celebration of its imminent release, today Cvlt Nation offers up seventh track, “Fememorde,” for public consumption.

Notes Bennett of the hymn, “‘Fememorde’ is the first song that was written for Old World New Wave, and appears on the ‘new wave’ side of the album. In that sense, it was the impetus for the entire OWNW concept. It’s a completely different kind of song for us -- probably because all the guitar parts were composed in my head rather than on an actual guitar. That hadn’t happened before and hasn’t happened since. So I’ll chalk this one up to something like destiny.”

IDES OF GEMINI: New Psalm Now Streaming At Revolver

With the official unveiling of their Old World New Wave full-length now less than one month away, Los Angeles ethereal dream-raiders, IDES OF GEMINI, are pleased to offer up another helping of sonic sanctity with “The Adversary.”

Elaborates guitarist Jason Bennett of the consuming tune, “The album was sequenced with vinyl in mind, so the ‘old world’ songs are on side one and the ‘new wave’ songs are on side two. ‘The Adversary’ is from the ‘new wave’ side of the album, which we see as a hint toward the musical direction of future IDES OF GEMINI releases. At least that’s what we’re saying now, until we write a bunch of new stuff that sounds nothing like this”

And if you missed it, sample the ethereal majesty of ‘old wave’ track “The Chalice & The Blade,” still streaming at Noisey HERE.

IDES OF GEMINI features Bennett, drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson and the haunting vocal prowess of singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of West Coast dark-psych conjurors Black Mare. The follow-up to the band’s 2012 Constantinopledebut, which Pitchfork christened “darkly beautiful,” and Terrorizer likened to, “a metallic-filtered kinship to Cocteau Twins and Mazzy Star,” Old World New Wave was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer) and boasts the striking hand-drawn cover art of Johnston-Gibson. Notes Timms of their latest manifestation, “For Old World New Wave we all really coalesced as a band, and were able to work off one another’s strengths. J came up with the basic concept and musical framework of the album, and Kelly and I gave it form and identity. For me, my own personal musical identity, taste, preferences etc. were eclipsed by the power of the music which worked as an animate force unto itself — so much so that I cannot listen to any of it objectively, or tell you if it’s good or bad, but I can tell you that it’s distinctively IDES OF GEMINI.”

IDES OF GEMINI will grace the stage this Fall with a pair of live performances, the first serving as the trio’s official record release gala in Los Angeles, the second playing Intronaut’s tenth anniversary show. Additional IDES rituals will to be announced in the coming weeks.

IDES OF GEMINI: Ethereal Sound Alchemists Drop “The Chalice & The Blade” Via Noisey; Old World New Wave Release Day Draws Near

Today, in celebration of Old World New Wave, the impending new release from ethereal sound serpents, IDES OF GEMINI, Noisey offers up the first official sampling of the record with “The Chalice & The Blade.”

Relays singer/bassist Sera Timms of the tune, “The main riff [guitarist] J [Bennett] brought in for ‘…Chalice…’ marches in as a transcendent assault with [drummer] Kelly [Johnston-Gibson]'s oppressive, jagged beat moving it forward like some re-animated corpse. A mechanized shamanic trance that sent me straight into the underworld lyrically."

Adds Noisey:  “[IDES OF GEMINI] are about to put out a new album called Old World New Wave and there’s enough droney doom on it to make you feel like you’re stuck in David Lynch’s dreams….”

IDES OF GEMINI: Ethereal Doom Contortionists Prepare To Release Old World New Wave; Artwork + Track Listing Revealed

Ethereal doom trio, IDES OF GEMINI, are preparing to unveil their sophomore offering, Old World New Wave, via Neurot Recordings this Fall.

IDES OF GEMINI features guitarist Jason Bennett, drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson and the haunting vocal prowess of singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of Los Angeles dark-psych conjurors Black Mare. The follow-up to the band’s 2012 Constantinople debut, which Pitchfork christened “darkly beautiful,” and Terrorizer likened to, “a metallic-filtered kinship to Cocteau Twins and Mazzy Star,” Old World New Wave was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer, Matt Hyde (Slayer) and boasts the striking hand-drawn cover art of Johnston-Gibson.

Comments Timms of the offering, “For Old World New Wave we all really coalesced as a band, and were able to work off one another's strengths. J came up with the basic concept and musical framework of the album, and Kelly and I gave it form and identity. For me, my own personal musical identity, taste, preferences etc. were eclipsed by the power of the music which worked as an animate force unto itself-so much so that I cannot listen to any of it objectively, or tell you if it's "good or bad", but I can tell you that it's distinctively IDES OF GEMINI."

Adds Johnston-Gibson of the images surrounding the record, “The artwork is an interpretation of Sera's lyrical narrative, which carries over themes from Constantinople, as well as symbolic of transformations experienced by us as individuals and inevitably as a band. The minimalist, direct style of the cover and accompanying illustrations is indicative of our energies combined to create one clear, singular force, as experienced through the music, while the visual content has more to do with the story: essentially a conflict between opposing energies leading to destruction, therefore allowing a clean slate for integration of opposites into a resurrected whole.”

Old World New Wave Track Listing:
1. Black Door
2. The Chalice & The Blade
3. Seer Of Circassia
4. White Hart
5. May 22, 1453
6. The Adversary
7. Fememorde
8. Valediction
9. Scimitar

Old World New Wave will be released on CD and digitally via Neurot Recordings and on vinyl via SIGE Records on September 16th, 2014. In the meantime, check out the teaser video at THIS LOCATION.

IDES OF GEMINI Announce New Album, Old World New Wave, To Be Released Via Neurot Recordings in September

WATCH THIS VIDEO TEASER FOR A TASTE OF WHAT IS TO COME

In May of 2012, Ides Of Gemini unveiled their debut full-length, Constantinople. Its mere existence was a triumph for the three band members—Sera Timms (vocals/bass), Kelly Johnston-Gibson (drums/backing vocals), and Jason Bennett (guitar/backing vocals)—but other folks had some nice things to say about it as well.

Following the release of their debut, Ides Of Gemini spent much time touring. They played a pair of shows with Old Man Gloom in the Autumn of 2012, before embarking upon a European/UK tour that kicked off at Germany’s South Of Mainstream Festival and saw the band play direct support to Saturday night headliners The Obsessed—and later to a full house at Holland’s Incubate festival. In January of 2013, Ides Of Gemini had the honour of opening for their labelmates (and label bosses) Neurosis at the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles.

Upon their return to Los Angeles, Ides Of Gemini played shows with Boris, Deafheaven, and True Widow before hibernating to finish writing and rehearsing new material. Now the new record is ready to see the light of day.

Old World New Wave will be released by Neurot Recordings (CD/digital) and SIGE Records (vinyl) on September 16, 2014. The record was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, CA, during the first week of February 2014. It was engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw, who did the same for Constantinople and is often noted for his work with Danzig. The album was mastered by Grammy-winning producer Matt Hyde, renowned for his work with Slayer, among others. The artwork and design, including the striking hand-drawn cover, were executed by drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson.

“The foundation for Old World New Wave was laid before Constantinople even came out,” Bennett reveals. “We had the title, most of the guitar tracks and basic arrangements in place at that point. We’ve been planning this record for a long time, so it’s incredibly rewarding—and a total relief—to finally have it out.”

Upcoming live shows

June 7 @ DOOM IN JUNE festival, Cheyenne Saloon, Las Vegas [ info ]

"A unique piece of work, for connoisseurs of intriguing music." - MASS MOVEMENT

"Ides of Gemini are a whispy, floating three-piece, made up of vocalist/bassist Sera Timms, who commands a throaty roar and a haunting singing voice, alongside rock journalist J.Bennett (Terrorizer, Decibel and others) and drummer Kelly Johnston who adds milatristic flourishes to the percussion. This gives the whole affair a fleet-like majesty, you can imagine a giant floatilla slowly moving towards you with impunity, this band leading the charge on a lone craft." - NINEHERTZ

"If anything, that’s the perfect word for Ides of Gemini – complementary. The album’s three components feed off each other to beautiful and captivating effect."- DROP-D

"Playing around with atmospheric soundscapes, elements of post-metal, black metal and psych-doom, Constantinople shows the bands ability to expand and take their sound in different directions." - THIS IS NOT A SCENE

IDES OF GEMINI Premieres "Starless Midnight" Video Via Cvlt Nation

Following a wildly victorious tour alongside cult metal sorcerers, Ghost B.C., Los Angeles’ favorite ethereal doom dealers IDES OF GEMINI today unveil a brand new video for the track "Starless Midnight" via Cvlt Nation. The ghostly tune comes by way of the trance-inducing trio’s Constantinople full-length, released through Neurot Recordings last Spring.

Elaborates guitarist J. Bennett “We shot this video in the middle of nowhere during an off day on the Ghost B.C. tour. It was directed by our friend Daciana Birladeanu, a Romanian sorceress who also happens to be my cousin. The process basically consisted of me complaining for eight hours while the girls did all the work. But at least I got to wear my Shriner belt buckle. Enjoy!"

Adds Cvlt Nation: “This visual is a nuanced visual journey through one of my favorite songs off the album. Like their music, it is bleak and dreamy at the same time, and although shot in black and white there is a warmth to it of fire and human body.”

IDES OF GEMINI’s Constantinople is a true transcendental doom masterwork. Applauded by Outburn “depressing dynamics topped by ethereal wonderment,” and called, “…a dirg-y doom crawl of an album…,” by Decibel, the record continues to raise the eyebrows on the non-initiated. Purchase Constantinople at THIS LOCATION today!
