IRON TONGUE's Neurot Recordings debut, The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown saw worldwide release last week!
The Arkansas troupe fronted by Chris “CT” Terry (founding frontman of sludge legion Rwake) also comprises veteran musicians Jason Tedford and Mark Chiaro on guitars, bassist Andy Warr, drummer Stan James, keyboardist JR Top and backing vocalist Stephanie Smittle. Musically the album traverses between groove-laden soul to heavy-amped stomping Southern Rock - underpinned by a dark inner core all of which makes The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown a compelling listen from start to end. Terrorizer notes, “With songs as well-crafted as this, they more than earn a pass for leaning hard on tradition. Better still when they deign to rock out like some doom besotted product of the ‘90s, as on closer 'Said N Done,' they lay down the big riffs in grand window rattling style," while Heavy Blog Is Heavy gushes, “With its heart in blues and its soul in metal, this cathartic crusher, hammered out by a mélange of Arkansas veteran musicians, pays due deference to its forbears. Initially, the music bears a strong resemblance to the recent batch of Townes Van Zandt covers, perpetrated by doom Illuminati Steve Von Till, Wino and Scott Kelly. Brief bursts of it emerge as IRON TONGUE roughly feed their country affectations and hefty, blues-tinged rock through the chomping maw of old school doom metal in much the same manner. However, there is no getting away from where much of this album’s running time is spent; playing between the twin forces of St. Vitus and The Allman Brothers Band.” This Is Not A Scene says The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown is “more than what the tags of Southern rock or doom suggest. There is a dark soul here and each song is played with sense of emotion and feeling than many bands that fall under those simplistic tags fail to muster.” Adds New Noise Magazine in a 4.5/5 rating: “It’s refreshing to hear a band try to mix classic rock and doom metal and not actually rip off Black Sabbath or anyone else for that matter, something that makes this band even more worth listening to.”
