MIRRORS FOR PSYCHIC WARFARE AND SANFORD PARKER ANNOUNCE EUROPEAN TOUR STARTING JANUARY

MIRRORS FOR PSYCHIC WARFARE have announced plans to return to Europe in January 2017, following a jaw-dropping performance at Roadburn Festival earlier in the year. Along with Sanford Parker, who will also be performing his solo experimental electronic set. There are 22 shows in all, including a visit to the UK, starting on January 12th in Hamburg - and you can watch a trailer for these dates below…

MIRRORS FOR PSYCHIC WARFARE is the collaboration between Neurosis’ Scott Kelly and Buried At Sea’s Sanford Parker. The band released their self-titled debut – a sonic manifestation of insomnia, complete with the tossing, turning, and perennial dread that comes with facing a new day – earlier this year via Neurot Recordings. The five songs that comprise Mirrors For Psychic Warfare lurch and pulsate across a sullen, desolate landscape with an almost curious obsessiveness. You can hear in full at their Bandcamp.

Anyone who has lowered their ear into the chasm of sound between metal and industrial in the last couple of decades will most likely have come into contact with Parker’s work. Perhaps through the bands and projects in which he is or has been involved as a musician: the doom-prophesying powerhouse Buried At Sea, the extreme-sound fraternisation, Corrections House, or perhaps the doom/post-metal shamans Minsk. Or maybe via the sheer volume of the releases to which he skilfully brought his very own toxic sound as a producer or sound technician. In this capacity, the name-dropping begins with Pelican, Eyehategod, Rwake, and Voivod and carries on far beyond YOB, Lair Of The Minotaur, and Wovenhand. In many cases (Minsk, Corrections House, Twilight, YOB, Blood Ceremony), he even combined the two areas of activity in an interdisciplinary radicalisation of sound both through the amps and behind the mixing desk.

In a way, this material is the translation of doom into the methods of electronic music. A concept work of cross-genre, dystopian music that builds on the loops and sequencer programs of industrial, but shuns purely linear song structures in favor of instrumental storytelling, the development of which expands a track into an entire world of sound. In the process, Parker knowingly invokes American and British industrial traditions, but equally, his microscopic detail work – primarily observable in the harmonics – could easily have come from German avant-garde electro institutions such as Raster-Noton or Mille Plateaux. These ideas manifested themselves in his solo album of this year, Lash Back, which imposes itself on the contemporary extreme music scene like the black monolith in Kubrick’s Space Odyssey – unassailable, incomparable, and perfect in form. Listen to the record in full at bandcamp.

ABOUT MIRRORS FOR PSYCHIC WARFARE:

"Parker's ability to invoke foreboding tones and textures enhances the ritualistic features, bringing MPFW closer in line with Jef Whitehead's defunct project Lurker Of Chalice than Corrections House...the psyche rattling tension they maintain is as unnerving as it gets." - METAL HAMMER

"Imagine a broken mirror on the floor, one shard catching your eye, reflecting a warped, spectral veil emanating from those motherships when at rest, like exhaust pipes slowly bellowing, and a mist created by gradually subsiding engine heat." - ZERO TOLERANCE

"Kelly and Parker deal in a form of debased, defeated industrial future-folk, a zoned-out space cluttered with crunching metallic debris. Some of the quieter moments skirt the dreaded dark ambient category – but that subgenre always seems to suggest hokey cyberdelic techno-sabbats or the Hellraiser sequel in which chief Cenobite Pinhead sashays around on a spaceship. By contrast Mirrors For Psychic Warfare seed concerns about depleted stocks of tinned food and the likelihood of typhoid.” - WIRE

ABOUT LASH BACK:

"Sanford Parker shedding layers until there's only his bare heart exposed - heart, as in a dark powerful engine, an inhuman mechanical contraption pumping oil to his moving limbs." - TERRORIZER

"As if to ask how much more sonic punishment you can take, Parker saves his most abstract piece for last. The charmingly-titled ‘Sheep Slaughter’ verges on the sadistically nightmarish sounds of noise artists such as Prurient, although it does include quieter, calmer gaps in between the barrages of nastier noises. Thanks to this metal interloper, electronica just got a whole lot heavier." - THE PLAYGROUND

"Sanford has found yet another genre that he is able to master and make his own." - AVE NOCTUM

"Lash Back is not a welcoming record. There aren’t many comparable acts who are so visceral and angular, but it’s a rewarding listen and another success for Parker, who has found another avenue in which to excel. For anyone following his work this is more than worth your time, and for metal fans who are intrigued by electronic music, this may scratch an itch you didn’t know you had." - THE MONOLITH

NEUROSIS To Perform In Four West Coast North American Cities Next Week Including Headlining The Power Of The Riff

NEUROSIS continues to bring the monolithic tones of their recently-released Fires Within Fires LP to audiences, with a run of four West Coast North American live performances rapidly approaching next week.

Following recent shows in London with Earth, Discharge, and Subhumans, and two shows in Portland with labelmates Yob and Kowloon Walled City, NEUROSIS next week plays to fans in their Bay Area origin, with a show in San Francisco on December 17th, again with support from Yob, Kowloon Walled City. The next day, NEUROSIS headlines the multi-day The Power Of The Riff in Los Angeles, the fest also including sets from Wolves In The Throne Room, Incantation, Nails, Pelican, Kowloon Walled City, and more. December 19th sees the band in Seattle, and December 20th in Vancouver, with support from Yob and Sumac on both shows.

Rolling Stone – who today issued their 20 Best Metal Albums of 2016 list, which features NEUROSISFires Within Fires in the #5 position -- recently highlighted the new West Coast shows in an in-depth feature on the thirtieth anniversary of NEUROSIS and the new Fires Within Fires LP. A segment of the interrogation offers, “Outside of booking tours and scheduling press, the group has existed as a DIY operation for the better part of the last two decades, sort of like metal's equivalent to Fugazi or Black Flag. Everything about NEUROSIS, from their extended drum etudes to the Pink Floyd–like visuals they hauled on the road with them for years, has been about bowing to their own artistic whims. Their 11th and latest release, this year's Fires Within Fires, showcases the best aspects of the Neurosis experience: downtuned Sabbath-influenced riffs, pounding tribal drumming, fleeting moments of elegance and caustic vocals recounting personal apocalypses.” Read the entire feature HERE

NEUROSIS’ first tour of 2017 sees them traversing the Pacific for a run through New Zealand and Australia. Running from February 14th through 18th, 2017 the band will play in Wellington, Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. Additional tour dates for the upcoming year will be announced in the weeks ahead.

Fires Within Fires is available now on CD, LP, cassette, and all digital platforms through the band’s own Neurot Recordings RIGHT HERE.

Decibel Magazine released an entire issue dedicated to NEUROSIS, including multiple rare Hall Of Fame features as well as a full feature on the new album, a very brief section of the coverage praising, “NEUROSIS have redefined what heavy meant and what heavy could be, all while refusing to define themselves as anything more than conduits for the music they conjure like diviners. Now releasing their eleventh LP, Fires Within Fires, they’ve ascended from the trappings of youth to alter the landscape of heavy music like the violent shift of tectonic plates.” Alternative Press published, “NEUROSIS have been endlessly creative and relevant for every stage of their now three-decade career…. Every part of their discography is essential, and this will be another welcome chapter in their story.” Noisey posted, “They're giants in a field obsessed with hugeness—hugeness of riff, of amplifier, of decibel, of ambition—and are a seemingly unbreakable sonic force… Whatever it is they continue to seek, this latest offering is a massive step forward towards it.” The Wire praised, “Fires Within Fires is the summation of thirty years of experimentation in tonality and texture. Yes, NEUROSIS are firmly positioned within the extreme metal underground yet their music, with its ability to generate images of beauty akin to those many of us have experienced in our own lives - not to mention the loss that accompanies them - challenges this categorization." Terrorizer’s album of the month review included, "Fires Within Fires sees NEUROSIS evoking both the primitive elements of their early years and the polished grace of their current form. A worthy addition to their legacy, their fire burns on."

MIRRORS FOR PSYCHIC WARFARE Featuring Neurosis’ Scott Kelly And Buried At Sea’s Sanford Parker To Kick Off Rare US Mini-Tour Later This Week

MIRRORS FOR PSYCHIC WARFARE
will kick off a rare bout of US live dates this week. Slated to commence on December 2nd in Los Angeles, California and run through December 16th in Oakland, California, the journey will traverse twelve cities in eight states.

MIRRORS FOR PSYCHIC WARFARE is the latest collaboration between Neurosis’ Scott Kelly and Buried At Sea’s Sanford Parker. The band released their self-titled debut – a sonic manifestation of insomnia, complete with the tossing, turning, and perennial dread that comes with facing another shabby daylight – earlier this year via Neurot Recordings. The five songs that comprise Mirrors For Psychic Warfare lurch and pulsate across a sullen, desolate landscape with an almost curious obsessiveness. And while Mirrors For Psychic Warfare may remind some of the best work on the classic Cold Meat Industry label, there is enough familiar Kelly/Parker-isms scattered throughout to keep the album stimulating. It is a work with more in common with a fever or a fitful wraith than a record.

Check out the record, still streaming at Revolver Magazine at THIS LOCATION.

MIRRORS FOR PSYCHIC WARFARE:

12/02/2016 The Handbag Factory - Los Angeles, CA
12/03/2016 The Green Room – Flagstaff, AZ
12/04/2016 Sister – Albuquerque, NM
12/06/2016 Muntiny Info Café – Denver, CO
12/07/2016 Heart Of Gold Tattoo - Salt Lake City, UT
12/08/2016 Wavepop House – Boise, ID
12/09/2016 Shakedown – Bellingham, WA
12/10/2016 Funhouse – Seattle, WA
12/11/2016 Hawthorne Lounge – Portland, OR
12/13/2016 Lucky's – Eugene, OR
12/14/2016 Café Colonial – Sacramento, CA
12/16/2016 Golden Bull – Oakland, CA

Mirrors For Psychic Warfare
was realized and recorded by both Kelly and Parker at Actual 13 Studio and Hypercube respectively over the course of 2015. The record was mixed and mastered by Parker and comes available in CD and vinyl form. This is not the first occasion where Kelly and Parker have joined forces. The two work together in Corrections House, a project that also features the talents of Mike IX Williams of Eyehategod, and Bruce Lamont of Yakuza, and where Corrections House seem hell-bent on impersonal bludgeon and unrestrained panic, the pair’s latest project — MIRRORS FOR PSYCHIC WARFARE — is far more restrained.

“Ambient(-esque?), but tense and brooding...” – Decibel

“MIRRORS… dwells into dark ambient and power electronics, resulting in a death industrial setting, reminiscent of the Cold Meat Industry roster, in the likes of Deutsch Nepal and In Slaughter Natives.” – Cvlt Nation

“Alternating between sedate brood and agonized howl, Kelly spurts a flowing river of distorted guitar, his manly moodiness resting comfortably atop Parker's steady beats and atmospheric programming.” – Austin Chronicle

“If you are a fan of either man involved, then you’ll know that the sheer emotional weight their self-titled debut carries could crush the casual listener and suck the air out of a room… it’s like waking in a cold sweat in the middle of the night from a fevered dream that leaves you restless and unsettled, not quite sure whether that feeling was real or imagined.” – The Sleeping Shaman

Every part of their discography is essential, and this will be another welcome chapter in their story.”

Noisey posted, “What more can be said about NEUROSIS that hasn't already been written, re-written, and re-written once again? They're giants in a field obsessed with hugeness—hugeness of riff, of amplifier, of decibel, of ambition—and are a seemingly unbreakable sonic force. When Scott Kelly, Steve Von Till, Jason Roeder, Noah Landis, and Dave Edwardson come together (and especially when they do so under the steady hand of longstanding engineer Steve Albini) the result is the kind of tectonic earth magic that the word doom was invented to personify. Whatever it is they continue to seek, this latest offering is a massive step forward towards it.” The Wire’s full-page review included, “Fires Within Fires is the summation of thirty years of experimentation in tonality and texture. BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH: Seattle Doom-Bringers Announce Final Show Of The Year; Band Welcomes New Member + Sophomore Full-Length In The Works

Seattle-based doom-bringers, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH, are pleased to welcome the addition of multi-instrumentalist Andrew McInnis to the fold to add atmospheric glaciers of resonance and texture. McInnis will appear with the band on their headlining show Saturday October 29th, 2016 at Seattle’s own premier underground venue, Substation. There are only 100 tickets available. The bill also includes Black Bone Exorcism who will be celebrating the release of their Crack The Bone, Break The Heart full-length (recorded, mixed, and mastered at Tad Doyle’s Witch Ape Studio in 2015) as well as Summoned By Giants and Guest Directors the latter of which features original TAD guitarist Gary Thorstensen. The performance marks the final BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH performance of the year.

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH:

10/29/2016 Substation – Seattle, WA

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH will spend the remaining months of 2016 and early 2017 preparing the next level of low-end power and irrefutable rhythmic dimensionalism that was being hinted at on their 2015 self-titled debut. In the writing of their next recording, the band will be taking new paths and push themselves beyond what they know of their instruments and voices.

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH — guitarist/vocalist Tad Doyle (formerly of Tad and Hog Molly), bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Anunnaki) — unleashed their self-titled debut album last year via Neurot Recordings. Captured at Robert Lang Studios and Doyle’s own Witch Ape Studio and mixed by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Zoroaster, Eyehategod, Taurus, Ommadon etc.), Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth is the sound of earthly decomposition and planetary ruin; a slow, suffocating, spellbinding dance towards a looming apocalypse. The record reaped accolades from fans and media globally with NPR noting, “Seattle’s Tad Doyle has been at this heavy game coming on three decades now. With bands like TAD and Hog Molly, he could take a bummer riff and make it boil and hum in ways others just couldn’t. Years in the making, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH’s debut is a thoroughly satisfying doom metal LP that is fully awake and teeming with power.” Decibel concurred, ““The Bros.’ debut lurches to life with a lumbering, grunge-influenced tune, ‘Lava’… From here, things slow down to funeral doom pace for much of the next six tracks/35 minutes. However, the doom and darkness is shaded with some interesting melodic textures and moments of lightness that come at unexpected times and add a dynamic gravity to the material.”

Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth is currently available on CD or LP at THIS LOCATION.

CHURCH OF RA’S COLLECTION EXPANDS: AMENRA ALIVE ACOUSTIC TOUR ON THE HORIZON AND SIDE PROJECT NEWS

(Poster design by Valentijn Goethals/ Tomas Lootens/Fraiskette Art by Aline Gorsen)

Following the release of Alive - AMENRA’s live acoustic album recorded at Ancienne Belgique (Brussels, BE) - the band will, for the first time, dedicate a full tour to their acoustic sounds by wandering these breathtakingly solemn sonic invocations across Europe during February 2017.

Entirely stripped back from their electric mass, these shows offer AMENRA at their most vulnerable yet an overwhelming sense of beauty, dark tranquillity and mindful rest blooms in their acoustic congregations, as those who have already witnessed shall attest to. The first round of dates are listed below, having experienced this at Roadburn earlier this year, we implore you to join AMENRA on these occasions:

AMENRA ALIVE ACOUSTIC DATES 2017
17/02 - Oberhausen DE, Drucklufthaus
18/02 - Berlin DE, Lido
19/02 - Gdansk PL, B90
20/02 - Warsaw PL, Progresja
21/02 - Wroclaw PL, Firlej
22/02 - Prague CZ, Futurum
23/02 - Innsbruck AU, PMK
24/02 - Milan IT, Santeria Social Club
25/02 - Lausanne CH, Les Docks
26/02 - Karlsruhe DE, Jubez
17/03 - Leeuwarden NL, Neushoorn
18/03 - Eindhoven NL, Effenaar
19/03 - Utrecht NL, Tivoli

Alive was initially released in April at Roadburn Festival 2016, where the band adorned the Tilburg masses with an acoustic set of which you can now watch in its entirety. The release also comes seven years since AMENRA’s first acoustic release – 2009’s Afterlife EP. A counterpoint to the band's Mass series, Alive features brand new compositions and cover songs, as well as appearances from special guests and additional musicians. Mastered by Frederic Alstadt, AMENRA show that heaviness and darkness does not always require significant amplification but can be found in our own mindfulness, reflectiveness and an honesty to the self.

In addition to the full Roadburn acoustic set linked above, you can further get a taste of AMENRA’s acoustic guidance with the video for the stripped version of Mass IIII’s ‘Razoreater’, an eight-minute insight into a 2015 acoustic show at Saint-Jean Church (Fribourg, CH) and a cover of Flemish folk artist’s Zjef Vanuytsel’s “Het Dorp”.

AMENRA are ever prolific, expanding their sonics into the collective that is the Church of Ra. Outside of AMENRA itself, vocalist Colin H. van Eeckhout has a new live solo release, 10910, incoming November 11th with pre-orders going live on October 3rd via Consouling Sounds. Inspired by his latest studio release, RASA, CHVE found these tracks manifested organically and distinctively once on stage. 10910 was recorded in one take during a busy Saturday afternoon in Ghent (BE), immediately being cut to vinyl afterwards. Mixed by Aaron Harris (ISIS, Palms etc.), mastered by Frederik Dejongh (CHVE, The Black Heart Rebellion, Syndrome, etc.) and the visual art direction comes from a collaboration between CHVE and Tine Guns. You can catch CHVE live during November, will the full list of dates being found at CHVE’s official Facebook page.

Guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove has also recently released a new LP under his solo moniker Syndrome, entitled Forever and A Day aptly following his 2012 release Now and Forever (both via Consouling Sounds). His instrumental, intricate and introspective journey continues with this new release, consisting again of one song that taps in meditative yet dark drones, ambience and melody. Syndrome shall lend support to a handful of dates on the November Alcest/Mono European tour in addition to solo shows, with a full list at his official Facebook page.

Fellow guitarist Lennart Bossu has further seen a new record break dawn of day with the hardcore/black metal crossover outfit Oathbreaker. The highly anticipated Rheia is enticingly unique and takes a great leap forward for the quartet with its concoction of seething sonic twistings, melodic hummings and impenetrable atmospheres, out now via Deathwish Inc. The band are currently supporting Skeleton Witch across the US whilst the Rheia release tour travels across Europe this November/December with Wife in support – all dates can be found at the Deathwish Inc. website.

NEUROSIS continues to book additional upcoming live performances around the release of Fires Within Fires, adding several new shows to their tour schedule. Following the previously-announced London shows with Earth November 7th and Discharge and Subhumans November 8th, and two shows in Portland with labelmates Yob and Kowloon Walled City November 25th and 26th, the newest additions come in the form of two California shows in December, leading with a set in San Francisco on December 17th, also with support from Yob and Kowloon Walled City. The next night, December 18th will see NEUROSIS headlining the second night of The Power Of The Riff 2016, with six additional bands to be announced for the same evening. Two shows in Seattle and Vancouver follow, on December 19th and 20th, respectively, with support from Yob and Sumac.

On September 23rd, NEUROSIS take a dominant leap with their eleventh full-length, Fires Within Fires. Three decades in the making, and following 2012's Honor Found In Decay, the album is a testament both to the history and future of NEUROSIS.

In true Ouroborean style, Fires Within Fires gives due to its predecessors while progressing forward into the unfamiliar and formidable. Striking NEUROSIS's signature balance between light and dark, beauty and repulsion, dense sonic heaviness and reflective space. Fires Within Fires is succinct, raw and deeply soulful, an all-encompassing reminder to all that transfiguration in sound remains their most commanding and inimitable strength. Our first and only glimpse of the music on this record, prior to release date, is sampled in a new video which has emerged, here you can also marvel at the exquisite album artwork from the renowned Thomas Hooper.

The journey of their music has found the band relishing the unpredictable, embracing the unknown and exploring the possibility of where the music was capable of taking them. Going beyond the remarkable, NEUROSIS has become unforgettable. Fires Within Fires is the next powerful step towards a destination that has long been and continues to be the very heart of "becoming" for NEUROSIS.

One Day You Will Ache Like I Ache came together during last year’s monolithic North American trek which united both bands. Amidst the chaos of tour life, the two groups found time to record together at Machines With Magnets in Providence, Rhode Island. The session eventually culminated into the harrowing sounds found on One Day You Will Ache Like I Ache, which is ultimately an audio reflection of their surroundings and their inability to cope therein. The record includes two bonus tracks as well as a bastardized rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “The Butcher.”

Pitchfork dubs the offering, “…a document of the overwhelming power of depression,” Metal Injection observes, “One Day You Will Ache Like I Ache is unusual, disgusting, and just as harrowing as you’d come to expect from either THE BODY or FULL OF HELL. It’s one of the only truly unhinged albums that has come out in the last several years,” while Decibel issues, “There’s some fucked up chemistry on their collaboration. On tracks like ‘Fleshworks’ and ‘The Little Death,” the bands forge new sounds that couldn’t have happened in any other context. Mostly though, the reinforce each other’s impulses towards abstraction.” New Noise Magazine calls the record “…an absolute assault on your senses that will leave an imprint for years to come…. For maximum experience, listen at full volume in a cold, bare, and unclean room with flickering lights while half naked and in a deranged state.” Adds A.V. Club, “THE BODY and FULL OF HELL are two of the most prolific bands in extreme music. While other groups that release so much material typically lapse into mediocrity at some point, both of these bands are seemingly inexhaustible wells of brilliance. One Day You Will Ache Like I Ache is a perfect example.”

One Day You Will Ache Like I Ache is out now on Neurot Recordings. To order your copy today visit THIS LOCATION.

NEUROSIS REVEAL TWO VERY SPECIAL UK SHOWS TO MARK THEIR 30 YEAR ANNIVERSARY, AND TO CELEBRATE THE RELEASE OF FIRES WITHIN FIRES RELEASE DATE: 23 SEPT, NEUROT RECORDINGS

Having marked their 30 year milestone with three shows in San Francisco and two shows at the much respected Roadburn Festival, and with a summer of touring across Europe on the horizon, the anticipation for something special in the UK is palpable. It therefore comes with great delight to announce two very special London shows in November this year with thrilling, and unexpected, special guests.

On Monday 7th November, Neurosis will be joined by Earth, and on Tuesday 8th November, they are joined by Discharge and Subhumans. These bands represent perfectly the cross-section of music which Neurosis as a collective deeply admire and relate to, which makes these two shows all the more important in this milestone year. Tickets go on sale today. All hi-res artwork across various platforms can be downloaded here.

Prior to that, on September 23rd, Neurosis take a dominant leap with their eleventh full-length, Fires Within Fires. Three decades in the making, and following 2012's Honor Found In Decay, the album is a testament both to the history and future of Neurosis. In true Ouroborean style, Fires Within Fires gives due to its predecessors while progressing forward into the unfamiliar and formidable. Striking the band's signature balance between light and dark, beauty and repulsion, dense sonic heaviness and reflective space. Fires Within Fires is succinct, raw and deeply soulful, an all-encompassing reminder that transfiguration in sound remains their most commanding and inimitable strength. Our first and only glimpse of the music on this record, prior to release date, is sampled in a new video which we shared last week, here you can also marvel at the exquisite album artwork from the renowned Thomas Hooper...

The journey of their music has found the band relishing the unpredictable, embracing the unknown and exploring the possibility of where the music was capable of taking them. Going beyond the remarkable, Neurosis have become unforgettable. Fires Within Fires is the next powerful step towards a destination that has long been and continues to be the very heart of "becoming" for Neurosis.
