Neurot Recordings Confirms Songs Of Townes Van Zandt Vol II For Stateside Issue

Mike Scheidt, Nate Hall, John Baizley, Katie Jones, Stevie Floyd and Dorthia Cottrell Contribute To Tribute Album

Following the 2012-released Songs Of Townes Van Zandt—the tribute album to late folk/country music icon, with covers from Saint Vitus/The Obsessed's Scott "Wino" Weinrich and Neurosis' Steve Von Till and Scott Kelly—this week Neurot Recordings proudly confirms the upcoming second installment of homage to the artist.

Once again through a partnership with their cohorts at Germany's My Proud Mountain Records, who envisioned the pair of tribute albums to Townes Van Zandt and will again handle the release for Europe and all international territories, Neurot will release Songs of Townes Van Zandt Vol II stateside in March of 2014. The second wave of tunes contained on the new volume complimenting this legendary but often overlooked American singer-songwriter will feature nine more TVZ covers, with contributions from a variety of artists who not only front full-time bands but whom also forged their own solo and collaborative works, including Mike Scheidt (YOB, VHÖL), Nate Hall (USX), John Baizley (Baroness), Katie Jones, Stevie Floyd (Dark Castle, Taurus) and Dorthia Cottrell (Windhand).

The cover art and track listing for Songs of Townes Van Zandt Vol II have been unveiled, with an official street date, music from the album and more to be released early in 2014.

Songs of Townes Van Zandt Vol II Track Listing:
1. To Live Is To Fly (Mike Scheidt)
2. Pancho & Lefty (Nate Hall)
3. St. John The Gambler (John Baizley & Katie Jones)
4. Rake (Mike Scheidt)
5. Waitin' Around To Die (Nate Hall & Stevie Floyd)
6. For The Sake Of The Song (John Baizley & Katie Jones)
7. Highway Kind (Mike Scheidt)
8. Our Mother The Mountain (Nate Hall & Dorthia Cottrell)
9. If I Needed You (John Baizley & Katie Jones)

"It happens every now and then. I'll be in a bar, some guy will declare that Townes Van Zandt is his favorite, settle in to a well-rehearsed, perfectly tuned and meticulously finger-picked rendition of .................whatever. I'm gone, I can't take it. I'm not buying anybody's domesticated, presentable, un-slurred, smiley faced and emasculated version of the man. And I ain't selling it either. If I'm going to play one of Mr. Van Zandt's songs, it's going make anyone in earshot a little uncomfortable. It will harsh some mellows, trigger some bad memories, some tears, bring it.....way down. Hell-fire man, play them in that hazy, beautiful, dangerous, wild and unreasonable place that birthed them! Forget you played it and play it twice! Botch the chords, miss some words, fall down off the chair. Man, he's up there, out there, under the bar and in your guitar laughing his guts out! Never forget, we're talking about a man who would walk across the Texas desert with only a bag of records, sniff some glue, steal his best friend's girl, make up a lie that was way better than any truth, and then write a better song in his sleep than any rational person's waking pinnacle. I love Townes for the beautiful, low-down, disaster of a genius that he was. And God help you if you run him down around me. Trust me, it's happened before - I am not afraid to make a scene. And by God, you'll know you just saw something then. I believe that Townes is still very much alive, more alive than you and me. We are living in the shadow world right now, all of us soon to move on. Don't fear it, don't water it down. Listen to these songs and then cuss me for the fool I am, run out and scream at the moon. Have one for the man, then move on down the road and don't look back."

STEVE VON TILL: Seminal Debut Solo Album Makes Maiden Vinyl Appearance

After resurrecting As The Crow Flies — the seminal debut solo outing from Neurosis’STEVE VON TILL, initially released in 2000, and brought back into print on CD in May of this year — Neurot Recordings is proud to also release the first-ever vinyl edition of the album.

What was the first non-Neurosis recording to see release as part of the Neurot family, this year’s reissue of As The Crow Flies has been unveiled precisely thirteen years after its initial release. Bearing a vast contrast to Neurosis’ massive, plodding riffing and percussion, the album instead feels more like a mental excursion into the outer realms of consciousness; an ambient, eclectic, organic and overall honest harvest from the mind of its creator. Bearing slightly updated artwork and packaging like the CD version, VON TILL’s maiden solo release will now see a proper vinyl pressing, available on deluxe 180-gram wax, in a pressing limited to 500 pieces direct through Neurot only. Both versions are available HERE.

The album is streaming in its entirety at Decibel Magazine joined by some insight on the inception and lifespan of the LP’s seven songs by their creator. Listen to all of As The Crow Flies and more RIGHT HERE.

STONEBURNER: Portland Sludge Metallers Join The Neurot Recordings Family

The Neurot Recordings family is pleased to welcome the audio devastation that is Portland's STONEBURNER to their expanding roster of forward-thinking music.

Featuring four members with a compelling musical ancestry that winds through Buried At Sea, Buried Blood, Heathen Shrine and more, STONEBURNER -- named after a subterranean weapon from the novel Dune -- spews forth a groin-churning orchestration of crust-strewn, hypnotic, sludge metal, their torrid odes glazed with pain and distress. The band will unleash the follow-up to their 2012 debut full-length, Sickness Will Pass, which The Sludgelord fittingly crowned, "an ugly, visceral and truly terrifying beast of an album," via Neurot Recordings this Spring. Titled Life Drawing, the offering promises to take their sonic crush to entirely new levels of heaviness.

Notes the STONEBURNER collective on their union with Neurot: "We've been working on the material for this album for a long time now and couldn't feel better about how it's come together. We're humbled and honored that Neurot have asked to be involved. Since the band formed, we've always done our best to work with people we respect and know personally, signing to Neurot is an extension of that...another step in combining our personal and musical lives and bringing it all full circle."

STONEBURNER was spawned in early 2008 though the bands' familial roots reach back two decades. To describe STONEBURNER's music one need only look to the list of bands with whom they've shared the stage: Yob, Sleep, Eyehategod, Neurosis, Buzzov-en, Weedeater, Saint Vitus, Watain, Tragedy, Noothgrush, Graves At Sea, Lord Dying, Drop Dead, Whitehorse, Wind Hand, Bastard Noise and so on.

For STONEBURNER, it's all about domination through amplification and soul-cleansing catharsis.

STONEBURNER personnel:
  • Elijah Boland - guitar
  • Jason Depew - guitar
  • Damon Kelly - bass/vocals
  • Jesse McKinnon drums/vocals

Further STONEBURNER intel, including Life Drawing release date and track listing, to be announced in the coming weeks.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE: Nihilistic Collective Announces Stateside Takeovers; March Through Europe Underway

Having just begun their march through Europe, today the CORRECTIONS HOUSE legion — Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod), Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza), Sanford Parker (Minsk) and their minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury – announce a short run of Stateside takeovers to usher in 2014. Set to commence January 2nd in Seattle, CORRECTIONS HOUSE will pillage their way through Portland, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco, leaving souls in torment and stages in ruins.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE are currently touring in support of their Last City Zerodebut, issued via Neurot Recordings in late October. Produced by Parker at Electrical Audio, Soma Studios, 60 Psycho Hum and Nodferatu’s Lair, Last City Zero is an audio product of societal ruin and psychological decay. At once beautifully hideous, graceful and terrifying, the record travels far beyond the confines of any one specific genre and continues to reap the applause of exploratory fans and critics globally. In a perfect 10/10 review of the offering, Crave boasts, “CORRECTIONS HOUSE have created something wholly original, incredibly touching, and most likely alienating. Bravo gentlemen, bravo.” In a 9/10 score, Exclaim! agrees, “Featuring dark, depressing atmospheres and exceptionally negative, apocalyptic vibes, Last City Zero is brooding, raw and corrosive, as well as breathtakingly beautiful.” The Sleeping Shaman notes, “The coming together of CORRECTIONS HOUSE seems like one of those moments where the protagonists caught lightning in a bottle, a project designed to explore the diseased, dark underbelly of the American Dream, like the soundtrack to a David Lynch film… It’s not perfect — at times it is ugly and raw — but it is something special and a captivating project delivered with complete conviction by its cast of players,” while About.com adds, “On Last City Zero,CORRECTIONS HOUSE survey the world with a bleak outlook, as much with scorn as sadness. The industrial/mechanical side feels indicative of how the soul is being ripped from the chest of society, whereas the cleaner side represents the need to hold on to our own individuality. The angry screams voice the fight to maintain what is ours and to retake what has been taken, and the spoken voices of reason and honesty instill reflectiveness and a lack of ignorance…”

In related news, CORRECTIONS HOUSE recently premiere a video for the track “Bullets And Graves,” upon unsuspecting masses via MTV Hive. Directed by Brian Sowell, “Bullets And Graves” is a flagrantly violent, roadside nightmare dominated by shady characters, vicious beatdowns and nameless destinations. Shot completely in black and white, the production is as captivating as it is disconcerting. Check out it out below.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE: New Video Now Playing At MTV Hive

Today, the CORRECTIONS HOUSE militia — Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod), Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza), Sanford Parker (Minsk) and their minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury — are pleased to unveil the brand new video for “Bullets And Graves.” Directed by Brian Sowell, “Bullets And Graves” comes by way of the band’s Last City Zero debut, released late last month via Neurot Recordings, and is an unapologetically violent, roadside nightmare marred by shady characters, nihilistic beatdowns and paths unknown. Shot completely in black and white, the production is as intriguing as it is unsettling.

accompanied by some words from Mike IX Williams,
courtesy of MTV Hive, at THIS LOCATION.

Produced by Parker at Electrical Audio, Soma Studios, 60 Psycho Hum and Nodferatu’s Lair, Last City Zero offers up eight psychologically alarming hymns that span well beyond the traditional confines of sound. On Last City Zero, the legion traverse tectonic plate-shifting doom and the downcast gloom of Kelly’s usual ouevre into mutated industrial hissing and clanging EBM beats from Parker, squalls and drones of oblique saxophone from Lamont and Williams’ familiar phlegm-drenched, razor-grated ire and all points in-between. Together they embrace the unkind, the diseased, the forgotten, the morose, their lush anti-soundscrapes and shadowy verses - at once beautifully hideous, graceful and terrifying – a product of societal ruin and psychological decay. Cold, mechanical, prosaic and pungent, Last City Zero is boundless in its genre voyage.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE recently announced their European takeover this December. The rituals will commence on December 3rd in Hamburg, Germany and level more than a dozen European metropolises before coming to a close December 21st in Wroclaw, Poland. Additionally, the band will preach the end-time message atop the main stage of the 013 venue in Tilburg April 10th at Roadburn. On Friday, April 11th at Het Patronaat, Kelly, Williams, Parker and Lamont will each perform solo material, aided and abetted by a selection of others as they see fit. As a precursor to the overseas assaults, CORRECTIONS HOUSE will sully the stage of the Cactus Club in Milwaukee on November 29th and the Empty Bottle in Chicago on November 30th with additional stateside presentations to be announced in the coming weeks.

NEUROSIS Confirms Two Year-End California Performances

Over a year since the dominating release of their tenth studio LP, Honor Found In Decay, the unstoppable NEUROSIS has locked down two new performances in their ongoing, sporadic live ceremonies in support of the album.

The newly-confirmed duo of concerts will take place at the cusp of the New Year, both in California, and both feature very special guests. NEUROSIS will first storm into Santa Ana on December 28th, then occupying their Bay Area origin once again the next evening, performing in San Francisco on December 29th. Both of these performances will feature direct support from Santa Cruz hardcore legends, Bl’ast — recently reunited, and here, performing their first live shows in over fifteen years — as well as mighty psychedelic doom trio, YOB. Additional opening support on the Orange County show will be provided by Helen Money, and the San Fran gig will showcase The Body leading off the night’s actions.

NEUROSIS has already announced their upcoming plans to invade Portland, Oregon with support from Tragedy, The Body and Atriarch on November 23rd, as well as two performances in Montreal January 18th and 19th alongside Godspeed You! Black Emperor — their first Canadian shows in nearly twenty years — followed by a set at the first inaugural Temples Festival in Bristol, UK in May. Other live actions will be declared as time continues to erode the calendar in the weeks before us.

NEUROSIS Confirms Duo Of January Shows In Montreal With Godspeed You! Black Emperor

This week, NEUROSIS confirms two new upcoming live performances as the quintet continues to steadily infiltrate new audiences with material from their lauded tenth LP, Honor Found In Decay.

These newly locked performances, set to take place on January 18th and 19th at the Metropolis in Montreal, Canada, will see NEUROSIS co-headlining the stage with Godspeed You! Black Emperor both evenings. What makes the performances that much more special is the fact that the duo of shows will mark the first time NEUROSIS has performed on Canadian soil in nearly a decade-and-a-half. Tickets for these two shows are on sale now at www.blackdotpresents.com and at the following stores at regular opening hours: Phonopolis, Sound Central, L'oblique, Sonik, Profusion, Atom Heart and Cheap Thrills.

Previous communiqués from NEUROSIS have also confirmed the band's presence in Portland, Oregon, playing the Rosleand Theater Saturday, November 23rd. This exclusive Pacific Northwest engagement presented by Mike Thrasher will also feature an incredible support bill, including Tragedy, The Body and Atriarch. NEUROSIS is also the first band confirmed to partake in the maiden booking of the Temples Festival, May 3rd in Bristol, UK; a heavy music event covering a broad range of genres within the heavy music spectrum, featuring key international and domestic artists with equal focus.

Since 1985, NEUROSIS surpassed the boundaries of any genre, never ceasing to mutate and progress their songwriting and sonic delivery, and never failing to mesmerize audiences both in the studio and onstage. In 2012 their monumental Honor Found In Decay, which went on to receive a wealth of praise the global media. NPR stated of NEUROSIS in an early premiere from the album, "For 27 years, the members of Neurosis have demonstrated what metal can be and what it can aspire to: transcendent, cathartic, graceful, innovative." The band graced the cover of Decibel Magazine, who opined, "Those who prefer their epics harrowing, their atmospheres apocalyptic and their metaphorical gut punches landed squarely on the emotional solar plexus will not be disappointed," with Spin saying Honor Found In Decay, "officially upped the ante for all the post-metal bands who ought to be paying these guys royalties for their patent on psychedelic purgation..." In the UK, Metal Hammer said the album was, "Another spiritual journey into the very heart of mankind. Completely and utterly mind-blowing," and Terrorizer stated in a 5/5 review, "The most stunning aspects of Honor Found In Decay come from NEUROSIS' grasp of dynamics...as ever, in the hands of these uncompromising sorcerers, true heaviness can be as much about the directness as disorientation, and as much about the sinister rumble as an unearthly roar." Once again, Honor Found In Decay reaffirms why NEUROSIS remains one of the most significant heavy acts in existence.

Stay tuned for further transmissions as new live plans develop.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE: Revolver Premieres New Hymn From Last City Zero

Today the deviants at Revolver unveil "Bullets and Graves," the latest paean of mechanical decomposition from audio offenders, CORRECTIONS HOUSE. An industrialized melee of primal animosity and subsonic grit, "Bullets and Graves" comes by way of the cult's impending debut, Last City Zero, set for release via Neurot Recordings late next month.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE is the collective musical extractions of Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod), Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza), Sanford Parker (Minsk) and their minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury. Already commended for exploring "a soundscape that is doomed and destroyed without using the traditional sounds of extreme metal," in an 8/10 review by Decibel Magazine, Last City Zero was produced by Parker at Electrical Audio, Soma Studios, 60 Psycho Hum and Nodferatu's Lair and provides an eight-track, near 50-minute investigative excursion of verse and orchestration that is at once beautifully hideous, graceful and terrifying - a true manifestation of societal ruin and psychological decay.

"Bullets and Graves" is the planet-rupturing sound of steel falling from the sky. Get injured, courtesy of Revolver Magazine, at THIS LOCATION.

NEUROSIS To Perform Exclusive East Coast Show At NecronomiCon In Providence This Weekend

Fresh off their recent two-pronged European tour, NEUROSIS will congregate at a one-off performance in Providence, Rhode Island this Saturday, August 24th.

This special ceremony has been arranged as part of the city-wide NecronomiCon -- a four-day convention exploring the works of H.P. Lovecraft and other past and present writers as an exploration of the intersection of science and art that lays at the foundation of the "Cthulhu Mythos" genre. NEUROSIS will take the stage at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel to perform a massive set as part of the festivities, with support from avant/crushing solo act LUSTMORD. The early show open with the 45-minute silent film, "The Call of Cthulhu," about the Strand Theater -- now Lupo's -- and how it was Lovecraft's favorite movie theater to attend.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE: New Track Now Playing At Vice/Noisey; Debut Full-Length To Drop This Fall

CORRECTIONS HOUSE have opened up their doors ever so briefly, permitting us
entry for a four-minute tour of their haunting abode under the supervision of our guide,
Vice/Noisey (Germany), who are streaming "Run Through The Night" at
THIS LOCATION.

A mournful tide of bleak instrumentation swollen with angst-ridden acoustic guitar, ceremonial horns and an underlying serration of electronic fuzz which eventually bursts open in to an unfazed and understated procession of black metal and spoken word, "Run Through The Night" is the fourth track from CORRECTIONS HOUSE's forthcoming studio album, Last City Zero.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE is the collective musical extractions of Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod), Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza), Sanford Parker (Minsk) and their minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury. The eight-track, near 50-minute Last City Zero was produced by Parker at Electrical Audio, Soma Studios, 60 Psycho Hum and Nodferatu's Lair, and delivers a wholly cerebral, impossible-to-pinpoint kaleidoscopic synthesis of mechanical decomposition, atmospheric abnormalities, and poetic putrefaction.

Forged unwittingly by the impetuous forces of nature and altered states of consciousness,

CORRECTIONS HOUSE is without control of their destiny. Boundless in their genre voyage, they embrace the unkind, the diseased, the forgotten, the morose, their lush anti-soundscrapes and shadowy verses -- at once beautifully hideous, graceful and terrifying -- a manifestation of societal ruin and psychological decay.

The transformation of time and space; death begetting life and veils being torn; an imposing dissonance too penetrating to dismiss... CORRECTIONS HOUSE systematically creates and destroys through audio disease and transcendent musical deconstruction.

All things in all ways. There is nothing else.

Last City Zero will be released in North America on October 29, 2013 via Neurot Recordings.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE: Exclusive Track Premiere Now Playing At Pitchfork

Today the musical miscreants at Pitchfork offer up the first sampling of Last City Zero, the forthcoming debut full-length from recent Neurot Recordings signees, CORRECTIONS HOUSE. A shadowy legion of lost souls, fused together by the impulsive forces of nature and altered states of consciousness, CORRECTIONS HOUSE is the maniacal creation of Mike IX Williams (Eyehategod), Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Bruce Lamont (Yakuza), Sanford Parker (Minsk) and their minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury. Produced by Parker at Electrical Audio, Soma Studios, 60 Psycho Hum and Nodferatu’s Lair, Last City Zero offers up eight psychologically alarming hymns that span well beyond the traditional confines of sound. At once cold, mechanical, prosaic and pungent, Last City Zero is a full body experience rather than a casual listen.

In celebration of its impending release, Pitchfork is currently streaming opening track “Serve or Survive,” which they call “every bit as strange and unwieldy as its membership might suggest. ‘Serve or Survive’ opens as an oblong bed of noise, the circuits of producer Sanford Parker, struggle to catch their breath while Bruce Lamont broadcasts whale song by saxophone. Above the gray drift, Neurosis’ Scott Kelly intones his familiar doom.”

Comments Fairbury of the tune: “How can the choice be any clearer? The less Serving you do, the more chance you have to Survive. Serving is rarely a positive experience and Surviving, although a victory of sorts, is truly the most basic form of existence. Either way, you’re fucked.”

Make a choice.

" Terra Tenebrosa are, as anyone would be, truly honored to be opening for Neurosis. I feel our music, though different in shape and form, is two sides of the same coin. IDES OF GEMINI Premieres "Starless Midnight" Video Via Cvlt Nation

Following a wildly victorious tour alongside cult metal sorcerers, Ghost B.C., Los Angeles’ favorite ethereal doom dealers IDES OF GEMINI today unveil a brand new video for the track "Starless Midnight" via Cvlt Nation. The ghostly tune comes by way of the trance-inducing trio’s Constantinople full-length, released through Neurot Recordings last Spring.

Elaborates guitarist J. Bennett “We shot this video in the middle of nowhere during an off day on the Ghost B.C. tour. It was directed by our friend Daciana Birladeanu, a Romanian sorceress who also happens to be my cousin. The process basically consisted of me complaining for eight hours while the girls did all the work. But at least I got to wear my Shriner belt buckle. Enjoy!"

Adds Cvlt Nation: “This visual is a nuanced visual journey through one of my favorite songs off the album. Like their music, it is bleak and dreamy at the same time, and although shot in black and white there is a warmth to it of fire and human body.”

Lose yourself in "Starless Midnight"
at THIS LOCATION.

IDES OF GEMINI’s Constantinople is a true transcendental doom masterwork. Applauded by Outburn “depressing dynamics topped by ethereal wonderment,” and called, “…a dirg-y doom crawl of an album…,” by Decibel, the record continues to raise the eyebrows on the non-initiated. Purchase Constantinople at THIS LOCATION today!

“..darkly beautiful..” – Pitchfork

“Their accretion of small musical gestures inverts metal’s normal use of space. They imply terror without ever exposing it. Each song is an accumulation of outlines, a sort of sonic daguerreotype.” – MetalSucks

“Processional doom, ethereal female harmonies and high-strung riffs incite head-bowing, not –banging…” – Spin

“…a proverbial treasure chest in terms of atmosphere, ideas and contrasting musical textures…original and breathtaking.” – About.com

It is said that great art has the power to take us outside of ourselves and bring us closer to ourselves simultaneously. Few bands have accomplished this rare feat on a more profound and consistent basis than NEUROSIS. For nearly three decades, their music has touched the hearts and minds of men and women seeking contact with something beyond the physical world, something intangible, something that expresses the inner tumult of the human condition in a way that transcends time and space. Something that not only provokes questions but maybe even hints at answers

Since 1985 this matchless force has surpassed the boundaries of any genre, never ceasing to mutate and progress their songwriting and sonic delivery, and never failing to mesmerize audiences both in the studio and onstage.

In 2012 NEUROSIS returned with the monumental release of their tenth studio album, Honor Found In Decay which went on to receive countless plaudits from the press on a global scale, and was positioned highly in end of year polls - reaffirming why NEUROSIS remains one of the most important heavy acts in existence. Their journey continues with these European tour dates in support of this vital album, and long do we hope their voyage continues into the future...

"Another spiritual journey into the very heart of mankind. Completely and utterly mind-blowing." - Metal Hammer

“The most stunning aspects of'Honor Found In Decay come from Neurosis' grasp of dynamics...as ever, in the hands of these uncompromising sorcerers, true heaviness can be as much about the directness as disorientation, and as much about the sinister rumble as an unearthly roar. 5/5” - Terrorizer

"Those who prefer their epics harrowing, their atmospheres apocalyptic and their metaphorical gut punches landed squarely on the emotional solar plexus will not be disappointed." - Decibel

“…officially upped the ante for all the post-metal bands who ought to be paying these guys royalties for their patent on psychedelic purgation...” – Spin

"For 27 years, the members of Neurosis have demonstrated what metal can be and what it can aspire to: transcendent, cathartic, graceful, innovative." - National Public Radio

"...doesn't abandon the moody sprawl of the band's last few full-lengths, but it does help restore urgency to an aesthetic that seemed in danger of growing soporific... It's a record that proves these grizzled artisans still know how to flex their muscles." - Pitchfork

IRON TONGUE: The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown Out NOW On Neurot Recordings

IRON TONGUE's Neurot Recordings debut, The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown saw worldwide release last week!

The Arkansas troupe fronted by Chris “CT” Terry (founding frontman of sludge legion Rwake) also comprises veteran musicians Jason Tedford and Mark Chiaro on guitars, bassist Andy Warr, drummer Stan James, keyboardist JR Top and backing vocalist Stephanie Smittle. Musically the album traverses between groove-laden soul to heavy-amped stomping Southern Rock - underpinned by a dark inner core all of which makes The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown a compelling listen from start to end. Terrorizer notes, “With songs as well-crafted as this, they more than earn a pass for leaning hard on tradition. Better still when they deign to rock out like some doom besotted product of the ‘90s, as on closer 'Said N Done,' they lay down the big riffs in grand window rattling style," while Heavy Blog Is Heavy gushes, “With its heart in blues and its soul in metal, this cathartic crusher, hammered out by a mélange of Arkansas veteran musicians, pays due deference to its forbears. Initially, the music bears a strong resemblance to the recent batch of Townes Van Zandt covers, perpetrated by doom Illuminati Steve Von Till, Wino and Scott Kelly. Brief bursts of it emerge as IRON TONGUE roughly feed their country affectations and hefty, blues-tinged rock through the chomping maw of old school doom metal in much the same manner. However, there is no getting away from where much of this album’s running time is spent; playing between the twin forces of St. Vitus and The Allman Brothers Band.” This Is Not A Scene says The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown is “more than what the tags of Southern rock or doom suggest. There is a dark soul here and each song is played with sense of emotion and feeling than many bands that fall under those simplistic tags fail to muster.” Adds New Noise Magazine in a 4.5/5 rating: “It’s refreshing to hear a band try to mix classic rock and doom metal and not actually rip off Black Sabbath or anyone else for that matter, something that makes this band even more worth listening to.”

IRON TONGUE: Debut Album Set For Release Via Neurot; New Track Posted

In less than a week, IRON TONGUE will proudly present their debut full-length The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown to the public via Neurot Recordings.

Set to hit North American store shelves this Tuesday, May 28th, The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown harnesses over forty-five minutes of seven-piece Arkansas-based outfit IRON TONGUE’s soulful, bluesy, and undeniably honest modern take on classic American rock, each track a legit tale of sorrow, regret and painful days past, as well as a harbinger of more rough days to come. The stories were chronicled by Billy Anderson (Melvins, Sleep, Neurosis, etc) at Wolfman Studios, owned by guitarist Jason Tedford, the band completed by guitarist Mark Chiaro, bassist Andy Warr, drummer Stan James, keyboardist JR Top, vocalist Stephanie Smittle, and fronted by Rwake vocalist Chris “CT” Terry.

In preparation of its release, a brand new hymn from The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown is available, as Invisible Oranges unfurls the LP’s gritty fourth track “Moon Unit.”

Comments James, “This tune has all facets of IRON TONGUE on display and showcases some of our influences. We are stoked to give you ‘Moon Unit’ to chew on until the record is out next week!"

STEVE VON TILL: Debut Solo Album To See First-Ever Vinyl Pressing; CD Back In Print And Available Now

As the out-of-print debut solo album from Neurosis’ STEVE VON TILL, As The Crow Flies, sees a long-awaited re-release this month, Neurot Recordings proudly confirms the seminal album’s first-ever vinyl edition.

Initially released in 2000, marking the first non-Neurosis recording on the Neurot roster, STEVE VON TILL’s As The Crow Flies is now available on CD once again, as the label this week re-releases the album into the population precisely thirteen years later. Bearing updated artwork and packaging from the initial release, the nearly forty-five minute composition bears a vast contrast to Neurosis’ massive, plodding riffing and percussion, instead feeling more like a mental excursion into the outer realms of consciousness; an ambient, eclectic, organic and overall honest harvest from the mind of its creator.

Neurot this week also announces the pending first-ever LP edition of As The Crow Flies, now slated to land late this Summer. This deluxe 180-gram vinyl pressing of the album will be limited to 500 pieces and will be available direct through Neurot Recordings only. An official late Summer release date will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

As a reminder and a taste of what is to come, watch this live footage of NEUROSIS performing 'At The Well' live in Oakland on New Years Eve.

"It is the overwhelming physicality of their monolithic riffs that remains their most incisive musical tool. An underlying sense of disquiet and existential yearning has long thrummed at the heart of Neurosis, but even by their usual standards the grim restlessness of the opener, All Rage in Gold, packs a devastating punch. On the extraordinary dynamic peaks and troughs of At the Well, the band wield near-silence as a weapon, its unsettling fragility emerging from clouds of ugly distortion and snail's-pace tribal percussion. Similarly, the sprawling Casting of the Ages forces the subtle and the grotesque together in an exhilarating but doom-laden embrace. In less skilful hands, this relentless sonic oppression would be gruelling, but by expressing human frailty with such visceral abandon, Neurosis have once again turned darkness into euphoria." - 4/5 GUARDIAN

"Neurosis have taken a more complex route: skillfully weaving strains of folk, prog and even chilled ambience into their patented doom metal/hardcore tapestry and often obtaining staggering results in the process...Low poiints are refreshingly absent, while at the record's heart are two epic, 10 minute set pieces. The maximum heaviosity of Casting Of The Ages initially seems an impossible act to follow, yet the breathtaking, Porcupine Tree-style scope of My Heart For Deliverance manages it with style to spare, throwing down the gauntlet for all would-be-future-shaping rock'n'roll alchemists into the bargain." 4/5 RECORD COLLECTOR

"Craggy riffs and swathed in misty synthesiser, and a firm control of dynamics lend "Bleeding The Pigs" and "Casting Of The Ages" a compelling sense of ebb and flow, raging intensity giving way to sombre piano lamentations and vocalist Scott kelly's weathered, Tom Waits growl." - 8/10 UNCUT

"Another spiritual journey into the very heart of mankind. Completely and utterly mind-blowing." - METAL HAMMER
"The most stunning aspects of 'Honor Found In Decay' come from Neurosis' grasp of dynamics...as ever, in the hands of these uncompromising sorcerers, true heaviness can be as much about the directness as disorientation, and as much about the sinister rumble as an unearthly roar." - 5/5 TERRORIZER

Iron Tongue Unleash New Track, "Lioness," via Classic Rock

Arkansas southern rock rabble-rousers IRON TONGUE have unleashed another soulful jam from their forthcoming album,The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown which is set for release via Neurot Recordings on May 27th in UK/EU and May 28th in the US.

The track "Lioness" is one of the standout's on the record. It draws you in from the opening heavy and groove-laden bassline of Andy Warr and Stephanie Smittle's alluring backing vocals, before heavy-amped guitars and Chris Terry's rugged and powerful vocals come forth and the track explodes into an almighty rollicking rock jam.

Classic Rock are hosting "Lioness" on their website today, check it out here.

Don't forget you can also listen to '7 Days' via The Obelisk, here.

Fronted by Chris “CT” Terry, the founding frontman of sludge legion Rwake, IRON TONGUE formed when a group of veteran players with diverse musical backgrounds found a common interest in the need to get down and dirty and way, way gone. Featuring CT alongside guitarists Jason Tedford and Mark Chiaro, bassist Andy Warr, drummer Stan James, keyboardist JR Top and backing vocalist Stephanie Smittle, IRON TONGUE offer up a thick, soulful blend of girthy, heavy-amped, blues-based rock. IRON TONGUE aren't singing of magical moonlit escapades. These are songs of true hurt, regret and despair reminiscent of everything from the proto-metal stomp of Blue Cheer and Grand Funk to the darkest hours of Kiss, Deep Purple, Buddy Guy and ‘Skynyrd.

The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown is produced by renowned audio sage Billy Anderson (Melvins, Sleep, Neurosis, etc) at IRON TONGUE guitarist Jason Tedford’s Wolfman Studios.

“a solid slab of balls to the wall shameless rock, with a power and an edge and soul that rarely exists in music today,” — Neurosis’ Steve Von Till

Ufomammut Head Out on the Road in Support of ORO

Italian supernatural sludge sorcerers Ufomammut hit the road again in support of their Neurot Recordings debut LP, ORO - which was released in two parts Opus Primum and Opus Alter in 2012. The tour begins in Frankfurt tomorrow and will also take in London's Desertfest and culminates at Poland's infamous Asymmetry Festival.

The band's sixth full-length boasts the most gargantuan and expansive material the trio have constructed to date. As with all previous Ufomammut albums, the concepts behind ORO are multi-faceted, mutating the Italian palindrome which translates to "gold" with the Latin translation of "I prey." ORO explores the concept of knowledge and its power; the magical stream controlled by the human mind to gain control of every single particle of the world surrounding us. ORO is the alchemical process to transform the human fears into pure essence; into Gold. Although ORO's two chapters were released months apart from each other, they must be considered as a single track in which the musical themes and the sounds appear and reappear, mutate and evolve, progressively culminating in the crushing final movement. ORO is an alchemic laboratory in which substances are flowing, dividing and blending themselves in ten increments from the alembics and stills, culminating into the creation of Gold.

Check out more video footage of Ufomammut's previous live events on the band's website here.

"You don't get to be called space-doom without being pretty out-there as it is, but even by Ufomammut's standards, the opening track of the Italian trio's sixth album is a surprise. Charting the point equidistant between Pink Floyd, Vangelis and LTJ Bunkem, Empireum sounds like the lost broadcast of an ancient alien civilisation (one that has a penchant for doom metal, obviously) Things get more grounded with the churning, planet-sized riffs and death-march drumming of Aureum and Infearnatural - but, in the background, distorted chants, wails and radio inference accompanied by swaths of analogue, and unsettling, unearthliness. With a sprinkling of melody here and there, Ufomammut are smart enough to know that, when it comes to heaviness, it's all about dynamics: when to leave a listener floating weightlessly, and when to set the controls for the heart of the sun. Apparently, this is just the first instalment of a two-part suite. It looks set to be a fantastic voyage. Truly cosmic." - 4/5 REVIEW GUARDIAN FILM AND MUSIC

"While it’s normally a bit of a daft but understandable practice marking albums out of ten, it simply won’t wash with UFOmammut, an insanely heavy Italian spacerock trio who have recently signed to Neurosis’ label. If you were to walk out of your front door and notice that buses, trains and tower blocks were being sucked into a supermassive black hole overhead there wouldn’t be any point in ranking it using the pitchfork system or awarding the interstellar gravity aberration a thumbs up, thumbs down or a middling hand waver because it simply exists in a higher realm of awesomeness." - VICE - ∞/10 REVIEW
