IDES OF GEMINI Announce Summer Tour With Clay Rendering, Performance At Crucialfest And More

IDES OF GEMINI are very pleased to announce their latest bout of West Coast live ceremonies. Set to commence on July 14th in Oakland, the journey will coil its way around ten cities through California, Oregon, Vancouver and Washington, coming to a close on July 24thin Glendale. The band will be joined by blackened dream pop duo, Clay Rendering. As a precursor to the expedition, the ethereal trio will play two shows supporting Oxbow next week. Two weeks later the IDES will head to Salt Lake City for a performance at Crucialfest alongside Rosetta, Norska, Disforia and more and followed by slot on the Demon Lung record release show in Las Vegas June 20th.

The latest round of IDES OF GEMINI rituals follow the band’s run supporting acclaimed indie rockers, Mountain Goats, which was cut short due to a medical injury sustained by drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson. "After the disappointment of having to drop off the Mountain Goats tour last month,” issues guitarist J. Bennett, “we're looking forward to getting out on the road again. Unfortunately, Kelly's injury is still healing so she won't be able to join us for the June shows with Oxbow and Demon Lung or our appearance at Cruficalfest in Salt Lake. The good news is that our friend Sash Popovic, formerly of [singer/bassist] Sera's [Timms] old band, Black Math Horseman, will be filling in for those. He's a killer drummer and a great guy, so we're very thankful that he's agreed to help us out. If all goes according to plan, Kelly should be back in action for the July run with Clay Rendering."

IDES OF GEMINI released their critically-hailed, Chris Rakestraw (Danzig)-produced Old World New Wave full-length last September via Neurot Recordings and as well as a special, limited Carthage/Strange Fruit seven-inch via Magic Bullet Records last month in honor of Record Store Day.

If you missed it, the band recently unveiled the haunting visual accompaniment to their reinterpretation of “Strange Fruit.” Written as a poem by Abel Meeropol in 1937, and set to music famously by Billie Holiday in 1939, the song stems from Meeropol’s original protest piece against the racial lynchings that marred the early 20th century in America and has been covered many times over including versions by Nina Simone, Annie Lennox, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Diana Ross, and countless others. The solemn video was directed by Timms, and is currently playing at Revolver Magazine RIGHT HERE.

IDES OF GEMINI's Old World New Wave is available on CD and digitally via Neurot Recordings and on vinyl via SIGE Records. For CD orders, point your browser HERE and for T-shirt bundles, point your browser to THIS LOCATION. The seven-inch is currently available on limited black and clear wax at THIS LOCATION.  Desirers of the digitals visit Magic Bullet’s BandCamp page HERE or iTunes HERE.

“A stark blend of black metal-derived guitar riffs, rigid, martial beats, and the haunting, gothic vocal harmonies of bassist Sera Timms and drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson, this album washes over the listener, feeling simultaneously comforting and unsettling.” – Decibel

“…the pure, sonic power of these songs… will knock you off your feet.” – Soundblab

“…an enjoyable dream-doom filled sonic journey from start to finish.” – Bearded Gentlemen Music

“…there’s enough droney doom on [Old World New Wave] to make you feel like you’re stuck in David Lynch’s dreams.” – Noisey

IDES OF GEMINI has a knack… for creating a world of sound and inviting the listener in. Their music has the feel of a classic horror film: all psychology, no fake blood or cheap startles. If there’s a goth revival afoot in metal culture — and, given last year’s releases by In Solitude, Beastmilk and others, there’s certainly an argument to be made for that — then IDES OF GEMINI is among its most evocative front-runners.” – Invisible Oranges

NEUROSIS To Embark On Their Most Extensive Stateside Tour In Over Fifteen Years This Summer

As their thirtieth anniversary nears, NEUROSIS will be hitting the road in their most extensive touring of the North American continent in over fifteen years this Summer, the announcement falling as the dust still settles on Baltimore following their crushing performance at this year’s Maryland Deathfest.

Not since prior to the turn of the millennium has the mighty NEUROSIS embarked on a tour of this size, as this week the band confirms more than a dozen new tour dates between the end of July and the middle of August throughout the Midwestern, East Coast, and Southern US states and the lower Eastern portion of Canada. Besides the extensive nature of the tour, they will also be playing in cities and states which they have not visited since the ‘90s.

For this widespread endeavor, NEUROSIS will bring an array of excellent acts to the stage with them, including support from labelmates Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, featuring Tad Doyle, for the entire trek, as well as eight shows with nomadic doomsday cult, The Body, five dates with expansive rock duo, Sumac (members of Baptists, Old Man Gloom, ex-Isis, etc.), and one show each with Pinkish Black and labelmates Iron Tongue. This all comes in addition to NEUROSIS’ previously announced inclusion in the massive, three-day Heavy Montréal Festival consuming August 7th-9th, where the band will perform the opening night with the likes of Mastodon, Meshuggah, Gorguts, Arch Enemy and many others.

Tickets for the impending NEUROSIS tour will go on sale for all shows this Friday, May 29th.

NEUROSIS Tour Dates:

7/31/2015 Liberty Hall - Lawrence, KS w/ Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, The Body
8/01/2015 Mill City - Minneapolis, MN w/ Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, The Body

As their ongoing legacy nears its thirty-year mark, NEUROSIS has become an institution of heavy music. From their beginnings as a hardcore punk band in the mid-‘80s to their gradual evolution into a transcendent and genre-defying collective, the Oakland, California natives have broken ground at every turn, pioneering a sound that influenced heavyweights including Isis, Mastodon and High On Fire and inspiring endless legions of fans with their expansive, mind-altering works. In 2012, NEUROSIS released one of their most ambitious albums to date, with Honor Found In Decay, cultivated through their own Neurot Recordings. Recorded by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio and mastered by John Golden of Golden Mastering, the album showcased the band taking their esoteric but leveling and categorization-free style of extreme music to even diverse areas of exploration. Following the record release show, the outfit disbanded with the longtime visuals that had accompanied their live set nearly since inception, empowering their anthems in a drastically more human approach. Since the album’s release, NEUROSIS has been more active tour-wise than they have since before the turn of the millennium, and seemingly shows no time of ending the campaign any time soon.

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH: Seattle’s Doomiest To Kick Off Live Incursion Tomorrow; Tour Trailer Posted

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH – the Seattle doom brigade featuring iconic guitarist/vocalist Tad Doyle, formerly of Tad and Hog Molly, veteran bassist Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Anunnaki) -- will level the stages of eight cities with their apocalyptic odes on a long-anticipated bout of West Coast rituals. Slated to commence tomorrow, May 21st, on their home turf of Seattle, the trio will make their way through Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Albuquerque, Denver and Salt Lake City with the run drawing to a close in Boise.

Issues Doyle of the trek, "It’s been far too long. The wait is over. Time for us to get out on the road, log some miles in the van and visit the cities and people we love to play our shit for in support of our debut self-titled record on Neurot Recordings."

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH will be touring in support of their lead-footed, their self-titled debut, unleashed in February via Neurot Recordings. Captured at Robert Lang Studios and Doyle’s own Witch Ape Studio and mixed by Billy Anderson (Sleep, High On Fire, Melvins et al), Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth serves as Doyle’s first recorded release in nearly fifteen years. Splicing thick, jagged riffs through chilling post-punk drumming and hulking compositions that blow soulfully hot and desolately cold, sometimes within the confines of one track, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH is the sound of earthly decomposition and planetary ruin; a slow, suffocating, spellbinding dance towards a looming apocalypse.

Sample BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH’s “Unnamed,” still streaming at NPR at THIS LOCATION, “La Mano Poderosa” heavying up the airwaves of Classic Rock at THIS LOCATION and “Lava,” still crushing Decibel HERE.

Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth is currently available on CD or LP at THIS LOCATION.

“The glacially paced ‘Empires Of Dust’ evokes Monotheist-era Celtic Frost with some post-punk elements, while ‘Unnamed’ imagines a world where the Melvins play black metal… Like the most iconic albums, this one reveals hidden nuances and elements with every listen.” – Invisible Oranges

“The Bros.’ debut lurches to life with a lumbering, grunge-influenced tune, ‘Lava’… From here, things slow down to funeral doom pace for much of the next six tracks/35 minutes. However, the doom and darkness is shaded with some interesting melodic textures and moments of lightness that come at unexpected times and add a dynamic gravity to the material.” – Decibel

“Doyle’s ears must have absorbed the past decade of heavy where the quiet-to-ear-splitting-loud dynamic dominated, but like his Pacific Northwest brothers in YOB, there is purpose in its movement.” – NPR

“Tad leads the charge through seven rounds of atmospheric post-sludge, the record’s 44 minutes no less concerned with ambience and mood than with gritting their teeth and bashing the listener over the head with waves of tectonic nod.” – The Obelisk

“After 15 years of relative silence, it’s good to have Tad Doyle back and in such fine form. God’s balls, This is heavy shit.” – MusicOMH

“BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH further cements Tad’s legacy in this town, while allowing us to take the journey along with him.” – The Seattle Passive Aggressive

YOB Confirms August Australian Tour 2015; Band To Descend Upon Maryland Deathfest This Week

The latest bout of touring from Northwestern psychedelic doom trio, YOB, has been announced, as the outfit has confirmed their first trek to Australia this Summer.

YOB’s live show is everything you’d want from a power trio. From frenetic riffs and furious drumming to slow, crushing doom, a YOB gig is less a performance and more a communal brain-fuck. They hold their audience transfixed with brief moments of brooding, atmospheric, almost ambient respite, before pulverizing them with a massive, brutal crush of noise. And now, Life Is Noise is proud to present the Australian debut of one of the finest doom metal bands in the world on their first trek to the Australian continent this August.

"We have been wanting to come play in Australia for a long time,” issues iconic YOB guitarist/vocalist Mike Scheidt. “A number of my favorite bands are from there! Also, we've made some good friends there over the years. So now to finally be able to go play some shows and hang in real time is very exciting. Massive thanks to Dave Cutbush, Jack Midalia and everyone at Life Is Noise for making it possible! We're very much looking forward to this."

YOB’s Clearing The Path To Ascend is available now via Neurot Recordings HERE.

In 2014, YOB released the best doom metal album of the year. Universally praised, Clearing The Path To Ascend topped Rolling Stone’s list of the best metal albums and was critically lauded by everyone from Pitchfork to The New York Times. Never has doom metal been at the forefront of the public consciousness like this, and it’s easy to see why: though it’s come almost two decades into their existence, YOB has made not just the best album of their career – they’ve made what will come to be regarded as one of the defining records in the pantheon of doom metal.

Which is not to say any of this came easy. Few bands hit their creative stride after seven records and almost twenty years, and YOB’s recording career has led them to stints with Metal Blade and Profound Lore before settling at their current home with spiritual siblings Neurosis at their label Neurot Recordings. The Neurosis comparison is obvious, but for every moment of earth-shaking post-metal, there are flourishes of old-school, soul-crushing sorrow that hark back to Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus; for every Earth-like meditation, there’s a measured catharsis of energy that recalls the explosive sludge of Melvins. What makes Clearing The Path To Ascend such a landmark record is its stellar two-track second half.

While the album’s opening act bathes in layers of funeral dirge and existential dread, its penultimate and closing tracks mark one of the genre’s finest half-hours as the trio push through to the other side of hell. With every repetition, Mike Scheidt’s riffs grow all the more hypnotic, his pious incantations ever-more compelling. YOB has succeeded where many of their contemporaries fail, imbuing the tropes of a monolithic genre with untold emotion and transcendent zeal. This is doom metal reborn.

Yob might be one of the best bands in North America. – The New York Times

“Psychedelic rock, stoner rock, stoner metal, blues metal, ambient: all reside comfortably in YOB’s wheelhouse, coalescing and collapsing on a path that stretches as far as the listener’s imagination.” – Pitchfork

“Clearing The Path To Ascend is magnificently loud and rapturously strident, but, at its heart, it quietly provides a sense of support for our innermost being; succor for our very souls.” – Steel for Brains

“All dreams must end—but by extension, so must all nightmares. On Clearing The Path To Ascend, YOB has beautifully, brutally conjured a bit of both.” – The A.V. Club

UFOMAMMUT: First North American Tour For Italian Psychedelic Doom Masters Begins Tomorrow

Italy’s cerebrally-decimating masters of psychedelic doom have landed in the US as they prepare to embark on their first ever North American tour this week in support of their lauded seventh LP, Ecate, out now on Neurot Recordings.

Celebrating their sixteenth year in existence this year, and with their triumphant two-week European tour with support from Conan freshly completed, the UFOMAMMUT trio is now set on exacting their tonal devastation upon American and Canadian audiences on their first full tour of the continent, which gets underway this Wednesday, May 13th, in Chicago. Besides a handful of live performances on the West Coast US back in 2009 and a spot appearance in Quebec exactly one year ago, this will be the first true tour for the longstanding and highly revered act on stateside soil. Deploying their fully visually-incorporated live energy with every show, UFOMAMMUT will now blaze through North American audiences with direct support from Portland’s Usnea for a full month, including a set at this year’s Maryland Deathfest where their Neurot brethren Yob and Neurosis will also be performing, the extensive trek coming to a finale on June 13th in Milwaukee.

Collectively issues the members of UFOMAMMUT on their North American arrival and the start of the tour, “We're in the States, finally... follow us on the 8700 miles (14000 kms) tour!
See You on the road!”

Released by Neurot-founded Neurot Recordings in March, Ecate, the follow-up to UFOMAMMUT’s acclaimed ORO two-part album, takes a confident step forward with the band’s select songcraft, orchestrating atmospheric processions that take the six songs on the album to places as-of-yet uncharted, the only guide being that of Ecate, the three-sided goddess who moves between the realms of the living, the dead, and the gods. Recorded with sound wizard Lorenzo Stecconi, utilizing his mobile studio at SOMS "Il Progresso" in Sarezzano, Italy, the band took their recording techniques to new dimensions on Ecate, creating more upbeat and aggressive measures, capturing them in a live-mic, open-air style which aided in the delivery of one of the band’s most potent and soul-invading works to date.

Watch the creation of UFOMAMMUT’s Ecate LP come together in seven short segments of the recording process through the Malleus Rock Art Labs YouTube channel RIGHT HERE, and Ecate can be streamed in its entirety via Decibel Magazine HERE.

STEVE VON TILL: Entire A Life Unto Itself Solo Album By Neurosis Guitarist/Vocalist Playing At Noisey As LP Nears Release Next Week

A Life Unto Itself
, the most immense, celestial solo journey from Neurosis guitarist/vocalist and Neurot Recordings founder, STEVE VON TILL, is now playing in its entirety worldwide courtesy of Noisey, as the LP comes within a week of its release from confinement into the public domain.

The majority of A Life Unto Itself was captured at Avast! Recording Co. in Seattle under the direction of producer Randall Dunn (Earth, Sunn O))), Wolves In The Throne Room, Marissa Nadler and Rose Windows), with additional recordings handled at STEVE VON TILL’s own The Crow’s Nest, and the final product was mastered by Jason Ward at Chicago Mastering Service. With guest viola contributions from Eyvind Kang, pedal steel from J. Kardong, and percussion courtesy of Pat Schowe, the album is enshrouded in artwork bearing the recognizable style of Aaron Turner (Sumac, Isis, Old Man Gloom, Hydra Head). All of these factors culminate into a twelve-passage voyage with over forty-five minutes of harrowing textures which drill their way immediately to the core of your bones, gnaw your heart’s defense mechanisms to their foundations, and invoke a wellspring of emotions.

Vice Magazine’s online music channel, Noisey, has made A Life Unto Itself available for streaming in its entirety just a week before its release, coordinated through several of its global entities, including an interview with STEVE VON TILL spearheaded by Noisey Brazil.

Delve into the expanses of STEVE VON TILL’s A Life Unto Itself and its inception through the words of its creator through Noisey Brazil right HERE, US HERE and Germany HERE.

A Life Unto Itself

A Life Unto Itself ventures into compelling uncharted territory for its maker. STEVE VON TILL's weathered, distinctive voice and sparse acoustic guitar provides a foundation, but a much wider variety of sonic textures are presented here. Bold and ambitious arrangements weave vintage synth, sublime strings, percussion, and electric guitars throughout these unique and expansive songs, as VON TILL's raspy whisper dives deeply inward, and speaks genuinely of visions, memories, and self-reflection in a way that feels both seasoned and exposed.

A Life Unto Itself will be available May 12th in the US (11th May UK/EU and 8th May in Germany).

NEUROSIS Confirms Performance At Heavy Montréal This August; Band Prepares To Invade Maryland Deathfest

Today, NEUROSIS confirms the band’s invitation to perform at this year’s upcoming installment of the massive Heavy Montréal Festival, in Montréal, Quebec.

NEUROSIS is one of the latest acts to be confirmed for Heavy Montréal, having just been announced alongside the likes of The Devin Townsend Project, Sanctuary, Obscura, Cattle Decapitation, Revocation and more, joining the roster of artists already confirmed to play at this year’s event, including Slipnot, Faith No More, Korn, Lamb Of God, Iggy Pop, NOFX, Mastodon, Meshuggah, Testament, Nuclear Assault and countless others. The open air Heavy Montréal gala will overthrow Quebec’s largest metropolis on August 7th - 9th, and NEUROSIS will take the stage on the opening night, Friday, August 7th.

Prior to their Heavy Montréal debut, NEUROSIS will make their return to the brutalizing Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore on Memorial Day weekend. Running from May 21st through 24th, the band’s Neurot Recordings kin Yob and Ufomammut will perform the opening night of the event, while NEUROSIS is set to play the final evening, headlining the Edison Lot A stage, following performances from Skepticism, Winter, Goatsnake and Tombs on the same stage.

Additional NEUROSIS live actions will be announced in the very near future.

NEUROSIS Tour Dates:

5/24/2015 Edison Lot - Baltimore Maryland @ Maryland Deathfest [info]
8/07/2015 Parc Jean Drapeau - Montréal, QC @ Heavy Montréal [info]

Following the release of their Live At Roadburn 2007 album and reissues of some of the band’s most seminal recordings throughout 2010 and 2011 — including their Souls At Zero and Enemy Of The Sun LPs and the Sovereign EP — NEUROSIS released one of their most ambitious albums to date, with 2012’s impressive Honor Found In Decay, all through their own cultivated Neurot Recordings. The album showcased the band taking their esoteric but leveling and categorization-free style of extreme music to even diverse areas of exploration, and following the record release show for the album, the outfit disbanded with longtime visuals that had been a part of their live set for decades, thereby empowering their anthems in a monolithically more human approach. Since the album’s release, NEUROSIS has been more active tour-wise than they have since before the turn of the millennium, and seemingly shows no time of ending the campaign any time soon.
