YOB will be touring in support of their critically-adored Clearing The Path To Ascend full-length, released early this Fall via Neurot Recordings. Recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene alongside longtime YOB comrade/iconic sound wizard, Billy Barnett and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege, Clearing The Path To Ascend has won the praise of major media outlets globally, including Rolling Stone who placed Clearing The Path To Ascend at the coveted #1 spot on their 20 Best Metal Albums Of 2014 noting, “The seventh album from Oregon doom metal sky-gazers, YOB, … makes perfect bedfellows of volume and beauty, pain and transcendence.” The esteemed publication further commends the record noting, “Opener ‘In Our Blood’ extends a simple riff into complex arches, tracing [vocalist Mike] Scheidt’s voice as it moves from an exquisite falsetto to a death-metal bellow in the course of sixteen-minutes. And during the colossal closer ‘Marrow’ — possibly the best metal song of the year, one that uses low notes to play uplifting melodies — Scheidt sings ‘Time will fall inside the dream.’ His voice suddenly reaches out like a clarion’s call, clear and telling and beautiful. It’s a pronouncement from the living, a semaphore pointing into the future.” Elsewhere the record placed at #7 on Decibel’s Top 40 Albums Of 2014, #9 on Wondering Sound’s 25 Best Metal Albums Of 2014, #1 on About.com’s 2014 Best Heavy Metal Albums List, #11 on Stereogum’s Top 50 Albums Of 2014, #9 on Spin’s 20 Best Metal Album’s Of 2014, #9 on Metal Assault’s Best Albums Of 2014, and #1 on Free Williamsburg’s 10 Best Metal Albums Of 2014 among so many other lists both published and in the works.

YOB’s Clearing The Path To Ascend is available now via store.NeurotRecordings.com.

“Mike Scheidt’s songwriting has never been stronger or more dynamic… a masterful return to form by an American doom powerhouse,” – Decibel

“An absolute monument of musicianship, songcraft, and raw emotion, this hour-plus slab of gut-wrenching, god-toppling doom, crafted by frontman Mike Scheidt in the wake of divorce and the decision to stop taking anti-depressants, operates on a grander scale, both sonically and philosophically, than any other album this year.” – Free Williamsburg

“For all its heaviness, the album is disarmingly meditative, relying less on forcing the mood for the listener and entrusting that the human commonalities of love, loss, fear, and hope threaded throughout the music will render an altogether familiar place of comfort and strength within the listener.” – Steel For Brains

“The sound on Clearing The Path To Ascend is tactile: You can practically feel vocalist/guitarist Mike Scheidt’s callused hands sliding up and down the guitar neck…This isn’t a case of fixing what was broken; it’s about becoming greater than they already were.” – Wondering Sound

“The closing, sprawling eighteen-minute plus ‘Marrow’ takes every previously visited songwriting element on Clearing The Path To Ascend and brings it all together into beautifully melancholic combination of heaviness and melody, a fitting capstone to a gem of an album.” – About.com

“Clearing The Path To Ascend is YOB at their most frenzied (‘Nothing To Win’) as well as their gentlest (‘Marrow’), but taken as whole, its four songs feel like the seasons or the elements: powerful, eternal, wondrous, and bigger than all of us.” – Stereogum

“…Mike Scheidt continues to drive his band YOB to new heights of epic, darkly spiritual doom without consideration for trends, self-consciousness or the whims of fickle consumers. At sixty-two minutes yet only four songs, Clearing The Path To Ascend rewards the patient while almost deliberately snubbing the ADD set… Scheidt uses art as catharsis, and that means you as listener as well if you want to take that journey with him.” – Metal Injection

CORRECTIONS HOUSE: Seward Fairbury Issues Roadside Update

CORRECTIONS HOUSE is currently terrorizing the US on a three-week live takeover. The expedition kicked off on November 30th in Boston, Massachusetts and will draw to a close on December 20th in Portland, Oregon.

CORRECTIONS HOUSE minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury, sent the following roadside missive: “The people of this country are lazy asses who want to sit around and believe the fear and lies that their TVs bring into their homes every night. Although the attendance has averaged around 200 people per night, on more than one night of this tour the turnout to our gigs was affected adversely by the fear-mongering in the press surrounding CORRECTIONS HOUSE. The boys have expressed to me their pleasure in getting out of the Northeast and Midwest and heading to the soul of America in the South and the Wild West were people are traditionally freer in their minds.CORRECTIONS HOUSE brings a very unique and intense performance to the stage every night and we look forward the last eight days of this journey. Step forward Americans, embrace the horror with clear hearts and open arms."

BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH: Crushing Trio Featuring Seattle Legend Tad Doyle Reveals Forthcoming Album Details; Teaser Video Posted

Keeping up a long-held tradition of bringing forth some of the heaviest music from the darkest depths of the Pacific North West, Seattle’s legendary Tad Doyle — formerly of TAD, and Hog Molly — delivers his strongest songwriting and playing to date with his latest manifestation, BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH. Boasting a trio of musicians with Doyle on guitar/vocals, veteran bassists Peggy Doyle and drummer Dave French (The Anunnaki), BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH will unleash their long-awaited, self-titled debut full-length on February 17th, 2015 via Neurot Recordings.

Recorded at Robert Lang Studios and Tad Doyle’s own Witch Ape Studio in Seattle, Washington and mixed by Billy Anderson (Yob, Sleep, High On Fire, Melvins et al), Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth delivers five immense hymns, with two bonus tracks on the CD edition and fuses the collective and extensive rock histories and experience of its three members in the worlds of punk, hard rock and metal. The threesome’s sonic craftings is welcomingly unfamiliar, splicing serrated riffs through chilling post-punk drumming and hulking compositions that blow soulfully hot and desolately cold. Their longform pieces present the kind of mature ideas and expansive progressions that outpace the listener’s short-term memory leading them off the proverbial map; familiar landmarks like sludge, post-metal, rock all but disappeared over the horizon.

The record begins with an ominous eruption of riffs forged from deep within the earth, with “Lava,” and continues on this path throughout; a mammoth, relentless spirit on a timeless journey. Authentic and authoritative, this album is as much a persistent thudding body punch of sonic destructive force as it is a thoughtful statement of awareness and the inescapable raw condition of life.

Elaborates Doyle of the band’s creation: “After almost fifteen years without putting out a record, much time was spent woodshedding, riffing and writing new material. BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH was originally a recording-only project and creative outlet for me playing all instruments on early unreleased demos but I quickly realized that I wanted the music to be played live so I would have to enlist other like-minded players. Peggy was an obvious choice with her enthusiasm and energy that made her an asset right from the start of integrating the band with other musicians. Dave French was a guy we both related to on a musical and deep spiritual level. We had played shows together with our respective bands, Peggy and I in BROTHERS OF THE SONIC CLOTH and Dave who played bass in his band The Anunnaki. Dave completed the circle when he offered to play drums and his joining was this last piece that solidified the band. We are very honored and excited to have this release on Neurot Recordings whom with their legacy goes a fierce integrity that we are proud to be a part of.”

In preparation of the release, today the band offers up a teaser video
to whet the ears of eager listeners.

IDES OF GEMINI: Cryptic “Seer Of Circassia” Video Now Playing At Noisey; Old World New Wave Out Now Via Neurot Recordings

Old World New Wave is the latest long player from West Coast shadowy sound conjurors, IDES OF GEMINI. Released in September via Neurot Recordings, the follow-up to the band’s critically-laudedConstantinople debut was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer) and offers up nine tracks of dark, mesmerizing soundscrapes.

In celebration of its release, today Vice’s music gateway, Noisey,  reveals the occult conjurings of their erotic Daciana Birladeanu-directed “Seer Of Circassia” video. Elaborates singer/bassist Sera Timms, “The concept of the album traces the symbolic-psychological breakdown of a character over ten days [‘Seer Of Circassia’ takes place on day four]. We're working within the structures of psycho-spiritual alchemical transformation, utilizing Carl Jung's school of analytical psychology. Essentially we have a story of the psychological conflict of opposing forces -- yin-yang, male/female/dark light, etc. -- each driven by desire. The masculine archetype in this story desires control and structure, while the feminine archetype desires recognition and equality as it has been repressed in the ‘Old World.’ Our protagonist is the Emperor, based creatively on the last Emperor of Constantinople, who represents the ego, masculine, solar consciousness along with control, structure, domination, force and power.

View the gorgeously shot “Seer Of Circassia” video along with an
in-depth interview with guitarist J. Bennett at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, check out a detailed Old World New Wave track-by-track breakdown at Revolver Magazine HERE.

IDES OF GEMINI is Timms, also of West Coast dark-psych conjurors Black Mare, alongside guitarist Jason Bennett and drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson. The band will bring their sonic séance to the stage next month playing Intronaut’s tenth anniversary show with additional IDES ceremonies to be announced in the coming weeks.

“[IDES OF GEMINI are] about to put out a new album called Old World New Wave and there’s enough droney doom on it to make you feel like you’re stuck in David Lynch’s dreams.” – Noisey

“..an enjoyable dream-doom filled sonic journey from start to finish.” – Bearded Gentlemen Music

“IDES OF GEMINI has a knack for atmosphere, for creating a world of sound and inviting the listener in. Their music has the feel of a classic horror film: all psychology, no fake blood or cheap startles. If there’s a goth revival afoot in metal culture -- and, given last year’s releases by In Solitude, Beastmilk and others, there’s certainly an argument to be made for that -- then IDES OF GEMINI is among its most evocative front-runners.” – Invisible Oranges

NEUROSIS has just confirmed three more shows for 2014, set to take place during the final days of the year in California.                                                                                                                                         Photo credit: Tim Bugbee

CORRECTIONS HOUSE released their Last City Zero debut full-length via Neurot Recordings last year.Produced by Parker at Electrical Audio, Soma Studios, 60 Psycho Hum and Nodferatu’s Lair, Last City Zero is the audio end product of government conspiracies, societal ruin and psychological decay. Traveling far beyond the traditional confines of any one specific genre, Last City Zero is at once beautifully hideous, graceful and terrifying and continues to raise the brows of exploratory fans and critics globally. Said About.com, “On Last City Zero, CORRECTIONS HOUSE survey the world with a bleak outlook, as much with scorn as sadness. The industrial/mechanical side feels indicative of how the soul is being ripped from the chest of society, whereas the cleaner side represents the need to hold on to our own individuality. The angry screams voice the fight to maintain what is ours and to retake what has been taken, and the spoken voices of reason and honesty instill reflectiveness and a lack of ignorance…,” Exclaim gushed, “Last City Zero is brooding, raw and corrosive, as well as breathtakingly beautiful,” while Crave agreed, “CORRECTIONS HOUSE have created something wholly original, incredibly touching, and most likely alienating. Bravo gentlemen, bravo.” Added Metal Hammer, “Whether it’s Mike IX Williams’ grim spoken word poetry or Scott’s coarse, monotone groan overlaying the clangorous soundscapes, it’s the utter bleakness that binds.”

CORRECTIONS HOUSE recently put the finishing touches on their forthcoming new full-length, set for release sometime in 2015. In the meantime, check out a live version of (half of) CORRECTIONS HOUSE’s cover of Neil Young’s “Cortez The Killer” from Roadburn at THIS LOCATION:

IDES OF GEMINI Unleashes Old World New Wave; New Hymn Now Playing At Pitchfork

Following the release of their long anticipated Old World New Wave full-length earlier this week via Neurot Recordings, West Coast sound weavers, IDES OF GEMINI, are pleased to unleash "May 22, 1453" today via Pitchfork.

________________________________________

Feel the swell of "May 22, 1453,” now playing at Pitchfork
at THIS LOCATION.
________________________________________

Elaborates singer/bassist Sera Timms of the hymn,
"We've had a history as a band of gifts and opportunities being given to us in alignment with the lunar phases, so it seemed fitting to give something back. This song and really the whole album is that something. The song was inspired by the prophetic May 22nd lunar eclipse preceding the fall of Constantinople. If you can imagine that empire as your mind and the black moon as your mother, then you will know the meaning of the Old World New Wave."

Adds Pitchfork:
“The band's always flirted with the occult in both aesthetic and tone, eschewing the heavy-handed witchicisms preferred by some in favor of cultivating a lighter, more holistic aura. The ritualistic feel on ‘May 22, 1453’ stems both from Timms’ stentorian delivery and the lyrics themselves, which circle around the lunar eclipse that some say predicted the fall of Constantinople. It’s a neat tie-in to the band’s debut, and only one of the album’s many arcane historical footnotes. The rumbling 'Fememorde' alludes to medieval vigilantes and political murder, while Timms’ dreamy croon on 'Seer of Circassia' spills dreams of the ancient crossroads between Europe and the Far East. Ides of Gemini aren’t the kind of band that would typically sing about goats or gore, but the complex, often mystical lyrics are handled with care, underscoring the band’s otherwordly ambitions."

And if you missed it, check out “Fememorde,” at Cvlt Nation at THIS LOCATION, “The Adversary,” still streaming at Revolver Magazine at THIS LOCATION as well as “The Chalice & The Blade,” at Noisey HERE.

IDES OF GEMINI is Timms, also of West Coast dark-psych conjurors Black Mare, alongside guitarist Jason Bennett and drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson. Old World New Wave, the follow-up to the band’s critically-adored Constantinople debut, was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer) and boasts the striking hand-drawn cover art of Johnston-Gibson.

IDES OF GEMINI will take to the stage this Fall on a pair of live performances, the first serving as the trio’s official record release gala in Los Angeles tonight, the second playing Intronaut’s tenth anniversary show. Additional IDES ceremonies will to be announced in the coming weeks.

IDES OF GEMINI: Old World New Wave

In May of 2012, IDES OF GEMINI unveiled their debut full-length,Constantinople. Its mere existence was a triumph for the three band members — Sera Timms (vocals/bass), Kelly Johnston-Gibson (drums/backing vocals), and Jason Bennett (guitar/backing vocals) — but other folks had some nice things to say about it as well.

Following the release of their debut, IDES OF GEMINI spent much time touring. They performed a pair of shows with Old Man Gloom in the autumn of 2012, before embarking upon a European/UK tour that kicked off at Germany’s South Of Mainstream Festival and saw the band play direct support to Saturday night headliners, The Obsessed, and later to a full house at Holland’s Incubate Festival. In January of 2013, IDES OF GEMINI had the honor of opening for their labelmates (and label bosses), Neurosis, at the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles. A month-long North American tour as sole support for the anonymous Swedes of Ghost B.C. followed in the Spring. This successful journey coincided with two new IDES OF GEMINI songs on Hexagram 45, a special Record Store Day 7-inch released via Magic Bullet Records that had to be repressed before it even came out due to overwhelming record shop demand.

Upon their return to Los Angeles, IDES OF GEMINI shared stages with Boris, Deafheaven, and True Widow before hibernating to finish writing and rehearsing new material. That new record is ready to see the light of day.

Listed among Alternative Press’ Most Anticipated Albums Of The Rest Of 2014 as well as The Obelisk’s Records Not To Miss Before The New Year Hits, the follow-up to the band’s 2012 Constantinople debut, Old World New Wave was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, California, engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw (Danzig), mastered by Grammy award winning producer Matt Hyde (Slayer) and boasts the striking hand-drawn cover art of Johnston-Gibson.

“The foundation for Old World New Wave was laid beforeConstantinople even came out,” Bennett reveals. “We had the title, most of the guitar tracks and basic arrangements in place at that point. We’ve been planning this record for a long time, so it’s incredibly rewarding — and a total relief — to finally have it out.”

IDES OF GEMINI will bring their ethereal nightmares to the stage this Fall with a pair of live performances, the first serving as the trio’s official record release gala in Los Angeles, the second playing Intronaut’s tenth anniversary show. Additional IDES rituals will to be announced in the coming weeks.

UFOMAMMUT will also be releasing a massive DVD entitled XV through their own Supernatural Cat Records this October, with more than three hours of material documenting their decade-and-a-half together. The band is also set to perform at Up In Smoke in Pratteln, Switzerland with Fu Manchu, Kadavar, Blues Pills, Brant Bjork, Dozer, Naam, Conan and tons more on October 3rd and 4th.

Oregon’s psychedelic doom metal trio, YOB, is currently embarked on a massive European tour with Pallbearer, supporting their recently-released seventh studio full-length, Clearing The Path To Ascend. Their first release as part of the Neurot family, the album was just released by the label on CD and all digital download, with Relapse Records releasing the vinyl version this week. IDES OF GEMINI: Los Angeles Unearthly Sound Alchemists Premiere New Canticle Via Cvlt Nation; Old World New WaveTo Drop This Tuesday

Los Angeles trio, IDES OF GEMINI, conjure the sounds of ethereal nightmares, where life, death and bereavement become one and the same - at once terrifying and enchanting; threatening yet indulging…

Featuring guitarist Jason Bennett, drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson and singer/bassist Sera Timms, also of West Coast dark-psych conjurors Black Mare, IDES OF GEMINI will unveil the consuming sounds of their long-awaited Old World New Wave full-length this Tuesday via Neurot Recordings. In celebration of its imminent release, today Cvlt Nation offers up seventh track, “Fememorde,” for public consumption.

Notes Bennett of the hymn, “‘Fememorde’ is the first song that was written for Old World New Wave, and appears on the ‘new wave’ side of the album. In that sense, it was the impetus for the entire OWNW concept. It’s a completely different kind of song for us -- probably because all the guitar parts were composed in my head rather than on an actual guitar. That hadn’t happened before and hasn’t happened since. So I’ll chalk this one up to something like destiny.”
