UFOMAMMUT: Italian Psychedelic Sorcerers Premiere “Zodiac” From Neurot Recordings-Bound 8 LP Via Cvlt Nation; Preorders Posted

Italy’s UFOMAMMUT has issued a thundering new single from their impending eighth studio album, 8, ahead of its September release through Neurot Recordings.

Recorded at Crono Sound Factory in Vimodrone, Milano, Italy, 8 is a major turning point in the heavy alchemic arts, with the elements of UFOMAMMUT’s recording constellation being re-aligned. Although the musicians within the collective remain unturned, a change in recording approach saw the trio playing and recording live together in the same room, even utilizing their live sound engineer Ciccio and his project Femore for production purposes, with Fabrizio San Pietro on mixing duties. Overdubs were used only for vocals, synth sounds, and minor details, with the result of the endeavor being a stricter focus on the soul, darkened groove, and overall cohesion of the music and themselves as musicians. In turn, 8 clarified to UFOMAMMUT who they are as a unit now and their new sonic path…

The longest track on the new album, “Zodiac” thunders with nearly nine-and-a-half minutes of UFOMAMMUT’s psychedelic, groove-laden, sprawling metal, a prime example of the tonal sci-fi obliteration 8 delivers.

The band offers of the new single, “Zodiac is the circular moving of the portion of the sky where we live, a circle that influence our being and what we are, it represents our turning around the tree of life, that is the sun. Zodiac is the central song of the new album, it seems to end several times, but it starts again and again. 'All is nothing and nothing is all, like an endless loop of time'."

Immerse yourself in UFOMAMMUT’s “Zodiac” at Cvlt Nation RIGHT HERE.

8 is due for release on September 22nd on vinyl and CD formats via Neurot Recordings and on a limited and regular edition vinyl via Supernatural Cat; the limited edition 7” for the “Warsheep” single is out now. EU preorders for the limited 8 LP can be placed HERE and for US preorders go HERE

Laden with symbolic nuances, 8 most obviously gestures towards this being UFOMAMMUT’s eighth offering, comprised of eight stunningly immersive tracks that flow into each other without interruption. This flow can also be seen when you tip 8 horizontally, thus it morphs into the leniscate from algebraic geometry [∞], a plane curve that meets at central point, more commonly known as the infinity symbol. A continuous stream of movement reflective of the uninterrupted nature of the album but also the continued togetherness of the essential elements of the band – Urlo, Poia and Vita – since the beginning of the band’s history. ∞ tipped vertically sees us return to the number 8. It must be stressed there is no singular pronunciation of the title, 8 is to be spoken in every language; “eight” in English, “otto” in Italian, “acht” in German, and so on.

Sonically and symbolically, 8 is not only wickedly limitless in its heaviness, power, and commanding nature, but how it arrests the listener’s mind creating a wholly unbounded and impenetrable sensory experience. The album is a continuous flux of music, a singular entity, which can be defined in micro measurements by its eight satellite songs. Each track expands upon the preceding song, unfolding into an exceedingly dense, malevolent and formidable journey, resulting in this being UFOMAMMUT’s most extreme outing yet, with zero breathing room in the forty-eight-minute venture. The album’s predecessor Ecate has now been put to rest and we can be assured that 8 is an essential turning point in the infinity that is UFOMMAMUT’s sonic signature.

DEAFKIDS: Neurot Recordings To Release Configuração Do Lamento On Vinyl And CD For The First Time This October; "Pés Atados" Video Posted

Brazilian avant mavericks DEAFKIDS will be releasing their masterful album Configuração Do Lamento for the first time on vinyl and CD formats this October 6th via Neurot Recordings.

Neurot label founder and member of Neurosis Steve Von Till explains how he came across the band: "I first read about DEAFKIDS when I saw a headline from Cvlt Nation that read, ‘This Band Sounds Like No Other!’ My cynical nature believed that to be a tall order, so I decided to call their bluff and clicked on the stream… MIND BLOWN. I was not prepared for how much I would love this record. Raw, powerful, and explosive heavy psych. I think I listened to it three times in a row right then and there. I played it for my bandmates the first time we were all in a room together and we all agreed, ‘We need to put out a DEAFKIDS record.’ So here it is, for the first time on vinyl and CD, that very same DEAFKIDS recording that first lured me into their sonic world."

DEAFKIDSConfiguração Do Lamento is an untamed release, happy to juxtapose monolithic drone riffage with frantic polyrhythmic detours, the band citing the syncopated beats of African drums as a major influence. It is a guttural, scorched mutation of psychedelia, that similar intent of frying the listener's perception, while void of anything approaching earthy wistfulness, wholly fluid in nature, paying no heed to any musical expectations other than the creators own internal logic. A bombardment of clanging percussion sits below relentless guitar battering, and a whole host of electronic tamperings, effects which in practice manage to further confound the proceedings. Using the term psychedelic in the absolute loosest sense is apt, as the band claims that “non-genre genres” are a chief source of inspiration, referencing anything from their own background in punk, right the way through to spiritual jazz, practically any form which allows the artist to experiment with the utter extremes of musical expression.

A key theme at the heart of this singular record is the crisis of identity within a colonized country, the conflict that arises when an imperialist culture is enforced, resulting in a drastic feeling of displacement. The music alone illuminates this theme, various contrasting influences seeping into the bands sound. As a project, they speak of the ramifications of cultural hegemony specific to Brazil, specifying that, "thanks to the way colonization happened here, a certain part of the Brazilian experience is bounded by a sense of fracture -- we're sons of the border... here and there."

Though the contextual aspects of the band are fascinating, they also insist that with music, there is a vital importance in surrendering to a degree of "non-rationality, on the sense that it should not be used as a narrative resource for spreading verbal/mental ideas". It's this collision of political outrage set against complete bodily and mental release, that makes DEAFKIDSConfiguração Do Lamento an undoubtedly fearless and inspiring piece of work.

Watch and share DEAFKIDS’ new video created for the track "Pés Atados" HERE.

Neurot Recordings will release Configuração Do Lamento on 10” vinyl and CD formats on October 6th; stand by for preorder links and more in the weeks ahead.

NEUROSIS To Play Their First-Ever South American Shows In December

Thirty years of anticipation will come to an end this December: South American fans will finally have the opportunity to experience the live intensity of heavy music pioneers, NEUROSIS

NEUROSIS, for the first time, will bring its cathartic live experience to South America in late 2017, performing three shows in Brazil, Argentina and Chile.

NEUROSIS has produced eleven studio albums, performed on stages around the planet — each record, each song, each show and each studio experience pushing the band one step further along on a lifelong path of spirit and sonic experimentation.

For the first time in South America, local audiences will feel the trance like power of NEUROSIS’ massive riffs. These South American shows are produced by Brazilian booking agency Abraxas in partnership with Xaninho Discos, beginning in São Paulo, Brazil, on December 8 at Clash Club, followed by shows in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on December 9 at Teatro Vorterix and Santiago, Chile, December 10 at Club Blondie.

"We are honored and humbled by the opportunity to experience a new sonic adventure on a new continent," says Steve Von Till. "Finally, after all this time, we are able to come to South America and. experience first hand the legendary and passionate heavy music scene there."

Remaining ticket information for the South American shows will be announced in the coming weeks.

In September 2016, NEUROSIS — on the heels of several 30th anniversary concerts in the United States and Europe — released Fires Within Fires to worldwide acclaim. The album was named one of the top five Best Metal Albums of the Year by Rolling Stone. Decibel Magazine devoted an entire issue to chronicling NEUROSIS’s history, and Terrorizer featured the band on its cover with the headline: “How One Band Changed the World.”

NEUROSIS have redefined what heavy meant and what heavy could be, all while refusing to define themselves as anything more than conduits for the music they conjure like diviners,” wrote Decibel.

”What more can be said about NEUROSIS that hasn't already been written, re-written, and re-written once again? They're giants in a field obsessed with hugeness-hugeness of riff, of amplifier, of decibel, of ambition-and are a seemingly unbreakable sonic force,” said Noisey of Fires Within Fires. “When Scott Kelly, Steve Von Till, Jason Roeder, Noah Landis, and Dave Edwardson come together (and especially when they do so under the steady hand of longstanding engineer Steve Albini) the result is the kind of tectonic earth magic that the word doom was invented to personify. Whatever it is they continue to seek, this latest offering is a massive step forward towards it.”

The summer of 2017 sees NEUROSIS on the road again: traveling to Europe and, in mid-summer, playing shows in Eastern Canada and along the eastern seaboard of the United States.

YOB Returns To The Stage This Weekend At Northwest Terror Fest Following Guitarist/Vocalist Mike Scheidt’s Diverticulitis Surgery, Additional Live Dates Draw Near

Cosmic doom trio YOB will make their return to the stage this week at the Northwest Terror Fest in Seattle, Washington alongside Coven, Cephalic Carnage, Wolves In The Throne Room, and so many others. The performance serves as guitarist/vocalist Mike Scheidt’s first show since undergoing emergency diverticulitis surgery earlier this year. Diverticulitis is an inflammation of the digestive tract and is often life-threatening.

Said Scheidt in a recent Facebook post to fans, “…Everything is different on my insides, and I'm learning to adjust to both healing pains and new normals. Time will tell which is which. All the same, slow and steady is my mantra. I have a feeling of gratitude that is consistent, and we’re writing so much new music with YOB that I don't know how we're going to distill it all… I wish nothing but love and health, laughs and inspiration for our shared, diverse, unique tribe. For those who have sent me messages, shared love, their time and help with my survival during these trials of mine, I remain ever thankful and count myself as beyond lucky. My ability to weather all of this and continue working is framed by these blessings. We are so looking forward to these shows...seeing friends, watching bands, and getting to share the stage. It's surreal to be able to do it again. Can't wait."

The band will also lay their purifying riff rituals upon Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, New York for three sold out nights -- June 23rd, 24th, and 25th. The shows were initially scheduled for February but postponed. The following evening, the band will head south for a performance in Austin, Texas at Come And Take It Live. In August, YOB will play San Diego, California’s Brick By Brick with SubRosa followed by a Psycho Las Vegas preparty directly after the fest’s warm up pool party (this will be a separately ticketed event). Future YOB shows to be announced in the coming weeks.

Watch YOB's tour trailer HERE.

YOB released their Clearing The Path To Ascend full-length via Neurot Records in 2014. On Clearing The Path To Ascend, YOB is as formidable as they’ve ever been, demanding the tandem attention of mind, body, and soul. Drummer Travis Foster wields his signature rhythmic furor here with bombastic precision while bassist Aaron Rieseberg coils around the sonic tide with an unforgiving churn all the while in a deadly synchronicity with Scheidt’s uncanny vocal range and its pendulous movement between the triumphant howls of a medieval madman and the earth-splitting growls of a war-battered titan. Take this opportunity to revisit this remarkable album at THIS LOCATION. YOB is love.

YOB’s Clearing The Path To Ascend is available now via Neurot Recordings HERE.

“Psychedelic rock, stoner rock, stoner metal, blues metal, ambient: all reside comfortably in YOB‘s wheelhouse, coalescing and collapsing on a path that stretches as far as the listener’s imagination.” – Pitchfork

“The seventh album from Oregon doom metal sky-gazers, YOB … makes perfect bedfellows of volume and beauty, pain and transcendence.” – Rolling Stone

“Mike Scheidt’s songwriting has never been stronger or more dynamic… a masterful return to form by an American doom powerhouse.” – Decibel

“There’s loud, and there’s transcendently loud, and this performance of ‘The Great Cessation’ is towering, the tone so thick it’s tactile.” — Terrorizer

UFOMAMMUT SHARE NEW SONG "WARSHEEP" VIA NEW VIDEO, APPEARING ON 7" SINGLE AND FEATURING ON THEIR UPCOMING ALBUM 8 (NEUROT RECORDINGS, 22ND SEPTEMBER); PLUS TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED

[still image from "Warsheep" video]

The Italian alchemic juggernaut, Ufomammut, masters of melding uncompromisingly heavy magic with psychedelic swirls, recently announced news of a brand new studio recording, 8, which will arrive on 22nd September via Neurot Recordings.

Prior to the album's release, the trio delight fans with an early extract from the record in the form of a video for the song "Warsheep" which you can view below. The band describe their intentions of the video..."it is inspired by the lyrics of the song which in itself is a play on the words "Worship". The protagonist takes a symbolic journey from the natural human condition to the trappings of the dogmas of society, religion etc. The principle idea being that thought is blind and is caged into the illusion of being free." Adding to the video's eerie atmosphere, the setting is in an abandoned villa in Italy, and the surrounding woodland.

In the spirit of record collecting rituals, and to offer something special to fans ahead of the full album release, Ufomammut are also sharing "Warsheep" as a limited edition 7". Available in a small run of 500 pieces, and with the cover handprinted with gold iridescent and red inks on pearlescent paper by Malleus, the record will be released via Supernatural Cat on 15th June, and will be available for pre-order via the label's website, and via Neurot stores too. Surrounding the release of Fires Within Fires, Decibel Magazine published an entire issue dedicated to NEUROSIS, including multiple rare Hall Of Fame features as well as a full feature on the new album, a very brief section of the coverage praising, “NEUROSIS have redefined what heavy meant and what heavy could be, all while refusing to define themselves as anything more than conduits for the music they conjure like diviners. Now releasing their eleventh LP, Fires Within Fires, they’ve ascended from the trappings of youth to alter the landscape of heavy music like the violent shift of tectonic plates.” Rolling Stone published a massive feature on the band, including in part, “Outside of booking tours and scheduling press, the group has existed as a DIY operation for the better part of the last two decades, sort of like metal's equivalent to Fugazi or Black Flag. Everything about NEUROSIS, from their extended drum etudes to the Pink Floyd–like visuals they hauled on the road with them for years, has been about bowing to their own artistic whims… Fires Within Fires, showcases the best aspects of the NEUROSIS experience: downtuned Sabbath-influenced riffs, pounding tribal drumming, fleeting moments of elegance and caustic vocals recounting personal apocalypses.”

Alaric features within its ranks current and former members of Dead And Gone, Pins Of Light, Noothgrush, Hedersleben, UK Subs, and Jello Biafra and Guantanamo school of Medicine. They began their voyage in 2008 with an eye toward creating moody and compelling music unlike any other. Alaric’s previous releases include a debut single Animal/Shadow Of Life (FYBS/ Buried In Hell Records, 2010), a self-titled LP (20 Buck Spin, 2011) and a split 12” LP, with Atriarch (20 Buck Spin, 2012). They released End Of Mirrors on CD, vinyl, and digital formats via Neurot Recordings, and on cassette via Sentient Ruin Laboratories in May 2016. The record was captured and mixed by Skot Brown at Kempton House Studios and provides an emotional and deeply physical journey via their shadowy sounds - beginning with influences from such progenitors as Killing Joke and Christian Death to the darkest, heaviest punk bands and psychedelia.

"Its a brave new direction that brings to mind the kind of electronic atmospherics that Tom Constanten added to the sound of The Grateful Dead at the height of their psychedelic San Francisco period during the late 1960s. Here, however, the Kool-Aid has been spiked with battery acid and the vibe is mean, lean and bristling with something that sounds like a hybrid of Motorhead and Genesis." - WIRE

“As a whole, it’s a dark, almost apocalyptic sweep of sound. Sitting alongside the recent releases by Se Delan and Madame Mayflower, 2016 is starting to look like the year goth is reborn. Forget darkwave and all that cal: emerging from a protracted period of social and economic turmoil, uncertainty, unrest, fear, and an all-pervading sense of existential trauma, we’re back in the late ‘70s and early 80s, and this is the real deal.” - AURAL AGGRAVATION

AMENRA INVITED TO PERFORM AT ROADBURN BY CURATOR JOHN DYER BAIZLEY

Roadburn Festival 2017 curator, John Dyer Baizley, announces that AMENRA will perform a set at this year's festival.

Roadburn and the Church of Ra are certainly no strangers; and there's no doubt they’ve left an impression on the wider music community.

“As I round out the lineup for my curated stages at the upcoming Roadburn Festival 2017, I’m again thrilled to announce one of the last acts I’ve booked: the uncontested visionary of monochromatic heaviness, AMENRA. The last time I witnessed an AMENRA performance was at Roadburn 2013, when they could still fit (barely) inside Het Patronaat. The line out the door was hundreds of show-goers long, and I was somehow able to force my way inside to see the band perform. To say they blew us all away would be a grossly undersold miscalculation. They set a new standard for me that afternoon, demonstrating just how forward-thinking and discovery-rich DIY music can be; a transcendent marriage of heaviness, artistry, non-linearity, energy, and soul which vaulted from AMENRA’s stage and through the audience.

“It is with the greatest pleasure that I announce their 2017 performance will be the first “heavy” set they've done in quite some time. They were at the top of my list of invitees when I was first asked to curate, and I wouldn't skip their 013 set for any rational reason. They are the penultimate Roadburn band; they’re a modern band, they defy categorization, and they are single-minded in their commitment to an unwavering artistic vision of beautiful cacophony. If this music could take physical form, it would render mountains to dust. Those faint of heart attendees beware, this is music that leaves a trace. I’ll see you all there.”

AMENRA have recently completed work on their upcoming album Mass VI, which will be released later on in the year via Neurot Recordings. To tide you over until Mass VI surfaces, the ever prolific creative forces behind AMENRA have teamed up with fellow Ghent musicians, Raketkanon to create AMENRA X RAKETKANON X MICHAËL BORREMANS — a split 10” released in May via Consouling Sounds.

Colin Van Eeckhout will present a short documentary filmed throughout 2016, entitled Noisey Meets: Colin Van Eeckhout as part of Roadburn Cinema. Directed by Duco Coops for Vice/Noisey this short documentary follows AMENRA’s frontman at various points throughout 2016.

Colin comments: “I wanted to put emphasis on the human aspect of being a musician; everybody always pictures us living in cellars drinking blood from skulls, but there’s more to our lives than that. You see my mom, my kids, my work, rehearsal space, some spots where it all began for AMENRA in the skatepark...you see what its really like behind the scenes. The free moments we have in our lives we dedicate it all to art, creation and music. We want to give form to that world inside our heads.”

AMENRA will perform on the main stage at the 013 venue, as part of John Dyer Baizley’s curation, on Friday, April 21, 2017. Meanwhile check out remaining dates below for previously announced shows...

NEUROSIS ANNOUNCE FURTHER LIVE SHOWS THIS SUMMER

NEUROSIS continue to announce live shows in support of their lauded eleventh studio album, Fires Within Fires. Today the band reveals a handful of festival and other live appearances in July.

NEUROSIS SUMMER 2017 LIVE SHOWS
Sat July 1: DK - Roskilde, Roskilde Festival
Sun July 2: SE - Stockholm, Kraken (w/ Wolfbrigade & Author & Punisher)
Mon July 3: SE - Gothenburg, Pustervik (w/ Author & Punisher)
Tue July 4: FI - Helsinki, Tavastia (w/ Dark Buddha Rising)
Wed July 5: IS - Neskaupstadur, Eistnaflug

"There is a deep energy and there is effervescent force... NEUROSIS play as if they have cracked the secret of punk itself, revealing that the truth of speed is slowness (take note accelerationists), and that high, taut voices and trebly guitars are just pitched up versions of the howls and bass that lie beneath." - WIRE

"a revelation" - METAL HAMMER

"Just like their live show after the departure of Josh Graham, NEUROSIS became rawer, more hardened and even simpler in a way, following the cycle-closing ‘Honor Found In Decay’. ‘Fires Within Fires’ is their shortest and most concise record since ‘Pain Of Mind’, but at the same time it’s one of the deepest, most memorable and dynamic of an illustrious, world-changing career that has celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. Only five songs, but as one full piece they unleash the spontaneous, exploding-star kind of energy that Neurosis, and no one else, are capable of creating." - TERRORIZER

"The Oakland five piece are on flawless form this evening, creating a sonic experience that enraptures as it crushes. They are a formidable presence, shifting from one song to another with machine like precision. A set stripped of the band’s more ambient soundscapes highlights just how skilled NEUROSIS are within their craft. Most bands would crumble under the pressure of having one of their key elements taken away, however, Neurosis prove that they are able to deliver no matter what the circumstances, and that every dynamic of their sound is expertly executed. Closing with classic ‘Through Silver in Blood’, tonight has been a truly humbling experience and proof that, after three decades, NEUROSIS are still very much at the top of their game." - AVE NOCTUM

"The power of NEUROSIS is an undeniable fact." - ECHOES AND DUST

Stand by, as additional performances and tour updates from NEUROSIS are to be expected.

NEUROSIS’ acclaimed Fires Within Fires is available now on CD, LP, cassette, and all digital platforms RIGHT HERE.

NEUROSIS Tour Dates:
2/14/2017 San Fran – Wellington, NZ [tickets]

2/15/2017 Kings Arms – Auckland, NZ [tickets]

2/16/2017 The Triffid – Brisbane, AU w/ Dispossessed [tickets]

2/17/2017 Manning Bar – Sydney, AU w/ Dispossessed [tickets]

2/18/2017 The Croxton – Melbourne, AU w/ Dispossessed [tickets]

10/28-29/2017 Ram’s Head Live – Baltimore Maryland @ Days Of Darkness

Decibel Magazine released an entire issue dedicated to NEUROSIS, including multiple rare Hall Of Fame features as well as a full feature on the new album, a very brief section of the coverage praising, “NEUROSIS have redefined what heavy meant and what heavy could be, all while refusing to define themselves as anything more than conduits for the music they conjure like diviners. Noisey posted, “They're giants in a field obsessed with hugeness—hugeness of riff, of amplifier, of decibel, of ambition—and are a seemingly unbreakable sonic force. When Scott Kelly, Steve Von Till, Jason Roeder, Noah Landis, and Dave Edwardson come together (and especially when they do so under the steady hand of longstanding engineer Steve Albini) the result is the kind of tectonic earth magic that the word doom was invented to personify. Whatever it is they continue to seek, this latest offering is a massive step forward towards it.” The Wire’s full-page review included, “Fires Within Fires is the summation of thirty years of experimentation in tonality and texture. Yes, NEUROSIS are firmly positioned within the extreme metal underground yet their music, with its ability to generate images of beauty akin to those many of us have experienced in our own lives - not to mention the loss that accompanies them - challenges this categorization. This is the band's aim; to confront the listener and through sharing their own experiences and impressions offer a template to explore the profundity and profanity of our past and future lives." Terrorizer’s album of the month review included, "Fires Within Fires sees NEUROSIS evoking both the primitive elements of their early years and the polished grace of their current form. A worthy addition to their legacy, their fire burns on."
