New Neurot Recordings Store to be Unveiled In The Coming Weeks

UPDATE: The new storefront launched June 6th. If you have any questions or concerns, please just let us know!

To all of our loyal Neurot Recordings store customers: we want to let you know of some exciting news! The Neurot Recordings store is getting a pretty immense update in the next weeks. We will be moving it to a fresh platform, which is going to offer, amongst many other changes, a new direct digital downloads section!

You will still be able to find our same great pricing on our CDs, vinyl and merch from the new Neurot Recordings store, but we are going to be introducing direct digital downloads, as well as: a much more user-friendly storefront; bundled product packages, better images and intelligent searching; and, a streamlined ordering experience.

We appreciate your patience, as with any website change, there may be a small time in the transition when our store is less accessible, or an item is harder to find than usual. If you have specific issues or questions, please feel free to contact us direct at Sales@NeurotRecordings.com and we'll try to get back and help as soon as we can.

FAQs on the store switchover:
  • When is the store switching, and what does that mean for orders I've placed recently?
The transition is slated to take place over the next weeks. Until that time, if you have questions on an order, click "FAQ" at the bottom of the page. The new store is going to have the same great backbone team and order processing group through Blue Collar Distribution and Merchtable, so we expect no interruption regardless of when you purchase.
  • Will your merch still be the same?
Yes, you can expect the same great quality as always from our clothing and accessories. Our new store is through a new platform called Merchtable, but our trusted team at Blue Collar Distro is still handling printing, stocking, coordinating and shipping items.
  • When are you restocking again?
We have been focused on the switch and setup of digital items, and have not fully restocked everything during this transition. But we will be looking at shirt restocks and reorders in the month after the switch.
  • How will the store "Help" and "FAQ"s change?
For now, the store is the same as always through our Blue Collar Distribution site, at store.neurotrecordings.com. If you have any questions or trouble with the new site itself (ordering questions, questions on shipping or downloads), our new store website will have a team available to help directly on those things, and a new help knowledge-base: merchtable.uservoice.com/knowledgebase
  • Will I have to create a new account for the new store?
Yes. We hope you understand, this is a big change for us, and unfortunately, our new store will not be carrying over your order history. If you want to keep that, log into the current store now and get your information from previous orders. We're sorry for that inconvenience. The new store will be much more user-friendly, and account setup will be more streamlined. In addition, creating a new account will allow us to provide you with previously unavailable features, like a digital content locker for all of your downloaded purchases.
  • Where can I get more information on the digital content you'll be offering?
Our goal is to carry all of our NR albums digitally. We'll be offering them for competitive, low prices direct. You'll be able to download them as 320kbps quality mp3s. The digital downloads will be available from the start of the switch, and we'll have them in a whole digital section on the store so you can easily browse or search for any album!

We greatly appreciate the dedication of our fans, and we truly want this transition to be a positive change for you, too. If you have questions or concerns, please let us know.

And, stay tuned: We'll post more information on the new online storefront as soon as it's live!

IDES OF GEMINI Announce New Album, Old World New Wave, To Be Released Via Neurot Recordings in September

WATCH THIS VIDEO TEASER FOR A TASTE OF WHAT IS TO COME

In May of 2012, Ides Of Gemini unveiled their debut full-length, Constantinople. Its mere existence was a triumph for the three band members—Sera Timms (vocals/bass), Kelly Johnston-Gibson (drums/backing vocals), and Jason Bennett (guitar/backing vocals)—but other folks had some nice things to say about it as well.

Following the release of their debut, Ides Of Gemini spent much time touring. They played a pair of shows with Old Man Gloom in the Autumn of 2012, before embarking upon a European/UK tour that kicked off at Germany’s South Of Mainstream Festival and saw the band play direct support to Saturday night headliners The Obsessed—and later to a full house at Holland’s Incubate festival. In January of 2013, Ides Of Gemini had the honour of opening for their labelmates (and label bosses) Neurosis at the Henry Fonda Theater in Los Angeles. A month-long North American tour as sole support for the anonymous Swedes of Ghost B.C. followed in the spring. This successful journey coincided with two new Ides Of Gemini songs on Hexagram 45, a special Record Store Day 7-inch released via Magic Bullet Records that had to be repressed before it even came out due to overwhelming record shop demand.

Upon their return to Los Angeles, Ides Of Gemini played shows with Boris, Deafheaven, and True Widow before hibernating to finish writing and rehearsing new material. Now the new record is ready to see the light of day.

Old World New Wave will be released by Neurot Recordings (CD/digital) and SIGE Records (vinyl) on September 16, 2014. The record was recorded at Valley Recording in Burbank, CA, during the first week of February 2014. It was engineered and mixed by Chris Rakestraw, who did the same for Constantinople and is often noted for his work with Danzig. The album was mastered by Grammy-winning producer Matt Hyde, renowned for his work with Slayer, among others. The artwork and design, including the striking hand-drawn cover, were executed by drummer Kelly Johnston-Gibson.

“The foundation for Old World New Wave was laid before Constantinople even came out,” Bennett reveals. “We had the title, most of the guitar tracks and basic arrangements in place at that point. We’ve been planning this record for a long time, so it’s incredibly rewarding—and a total relief—to finally have it out.”

Upcoming live shows
May 22 @ Cafe NELA in Los Angeles (first show in over 6 months) [ info ]
June 7 @ DOOM IN JUNE festival, Cheyenne Saloon, Las Vegas [ info ]

"Ides Of Gemini exists in a spiritually distinct realm from everyone, ever. There's plenty here to immerse oneself in." - ROCK A ROLLA

"There is a metallic-filtered kinship here to Cocteau Twins and Mazzy Star: this is gorgeous stuff, full of promise, and heading toward true greatness." - TERRORIZER

"Darkthrone-meets-South African space rockers, Tribe After Tribe-meets-Dead Can Dance- meets-Godflesh." - METAL HAMMER

“a proverbial treasure chest in terms of atmosphere, ideas and contrasting musical textures…original and breathtaking.” - ABOUT.COM

“Their accretion of small musical gestures inverts metal’s normal use of space. They imply terror without ever exposing it. Each song is an accumulation of outlines, a sort of sonic daguerreotype.” - METALSUCKS

“Processional doom, [with] ethereal female harmonies and high-strung riffs [that] incite head-bowing, not –banging.” - SPIN

"It’s easy to see Constantinople as a cathartic exorcism of demons. This also means that it’s an incredibly cohesive album that is best enjoyed as a whole, the songs best understood in context of the ones that came before. This is an impressionistic interpretation of doom." - SLEEPING SHAMAN

"Ides of Gemini’s addictive sound infused within such an inspired album." - BLISTERING

"A unique piece of work, for connoisseurs of intriguing music." - MASS MOVEMENT

"Ides of Gemini are a whispy, floating three-piece, made up of vocalist/bassist Sera Timms, who commands a throaty roar and a haunting singing voice, alongside rock journalist J.Bennett (Terrorizer, Decibel and others) and drummer Kelly Johnston who adds milatristic flourishes to the percussion. This gives the whole affair a fleet-like majesty, you can imagine a giant floatilla slowly moving towards you with impunity, this band leading the charge on a lone craft." - NINEHERTZ

"If anything, that’s the perfect word for Ides of Gemini – complementary. The album’s three components feed off each other to beautiful and captivating effect."- DROP-D

"Playing around with atmospheric soundscapes, elements of post-metal, black metal and psych-doom, Constantinople shows the bands ability to expand and take their sound in different directions." - THIS IS NOT A SCENE

NEUROSIS has become an institution of heavy music. From their beginnings as a hardcore punk band in the mid-‘80s to their gradual evolution into a transcendent and genre-defying collective, the Oakland, California natives have broken ground at every turn, pioneering a sound that influenced heavyweights like Isis, Mastodon and High on Fire.

Yet nothing else sounds quite like NEUROSIS. Marked by subtle dynamics, the desolate vocals of Scott Kelly and Steve von Till, and moments of pure catharsis,NEUROSIS defies imitation. While their Bay Area peers followed predictable routes, the band saw opportunities for experimentation and innovation everywhere they looked, incorporating a slew of non-traditional elements into their hypnotic brand of music, utilizing tribal rhythms, synthesizers and strings while pushing every boundary conceivable. The result is a sound that’s as diverse as it is rich, taking cues from sludge, doom and all things heavy, all the while operating outside the boundaries of any one aesthetic.

Nearly thirty years on, NEUROSIS’ schedule has slowed: the band rarely tours and gaps between releases grow larger. But what they may lack in recent activity they make up for with unbridled intensity, both on record and in the flesh. Live,NEUROSIS is a revelation: a monolithic presence of near-otherworldly proportions, delivering the kind of sonic experience that’s as epic and all-encompassing as you can expect from such a reputable and enigmatic group of artists. Prepare to lose your mind.

YOB: Doom Metal Conjurors Unleash First Video Teaser; Forthcoming New Full-Length To Be Unveiled Via Neurot This Fall

Long-running Oregon doom metal conjurors and recent Neurot signees, YOB, are pleased to unveil the first taste of their forthcoming new long player. Titled Clearing The Path To Ascend, the trio’s latest audio exploration was recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene, notorious for its reserve of vintage equipment, alongside longtime collaborator/iconic sound-sage Billy Barnett, who mastered YOB’s Atma, The Great Cessation, The Unreal Never Lived and The Illusion Of Motion. Mastering was handled by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering. The result is a wholly cathartic, sonicly enormous, riff-soaked sound collage of dark and light.

Comments founding vocalist/guitarist Mike Scheidt, "Writing this album felt like being plugged into a main. Emotionally, it's our heaviest. But it also has some real beauty and light. We dug the deepest we ever have to get to the heart of these tunes."

Witness the first sampling of Clearing The Path To Ascend here:

YOB:
Mike Scheidt – vocals/guitars
Travis Foster – drums
Aaron Rieseberg – Bass

Clearing The Path To Ascend will be released via Neurot Recordings this Fall. Further details to be disclosed in the coming weeks.

“YOB might be one of the best bands in North America,” — Ben Ratliff; New York Times

“The second track on Clearing The Path To Ascend has some of the most furious drums I’ve ever heard from Travis Foster. We’re talking Through Silver In Blood-level.” – The Obelisk’s Roadburn 2014 Recap

Celebrating fifteen years of ever-morphing sonic exploration, Italian psychedelic doom metal trio, UFOMAMMUT, will make their return to North America this week with a one-off show.
